Hi All

We have inherited some Dell Lattitude E6400 laptops, but we have a slight problem with them the sound is disabled so the internal laptop speakers don't work. I've checked all the usual places to enable sound but cant find anything and I am struggling. Also when I check in Sound controllers in device manager I cant seem to find a sound codec. I believe the E seies machines had IDT sound codec?

Question is how do I find what is missing to enable the sound to work ?

All help appreciated

If I recall, you go on to the support section on the Dell website and it allows you to enter the serial number which in turns brings up a definitive list of drivers for that actual system

Here ya go!!!

Also check its not disabled in the bios. As above, go to dell and enter the service tag number, it will list all of the required drivers

Thanks you are a star, IDT driver is indeed missing from the machine and the download is there under the service tag number. Will download it and give it a whirl

Many thanks
