Hi all does anyone know of/used desirable cars.com of Leicester & if so any feedback please?(they have a well specced ml i'm interested in but before making a 260 mile roundtrip it would be nice to see if anyones had any dealings with them).

Nobody in leics/east mids know of/used desirable cars in Syston?

Thought they might be something to do with the cowboys who sold me my E55. They have a site in Burbage Leics, and I know they had another warehouse-type set up not far away, but I never went there. Have you google mapped Turn Street... Doesn't look like a prestige dealer is there?

Sorry to sound negative, might be way off mark.

Hi,thanks for the reply/heads up,i'm not familiar with that area of Leicester as i live 125 miles away in Surrey, looking at there website it does say they don't have a fancy showroom etc so as to keep costs down & most the cars they have for sale are prestige marques.Speaking to one of the guys there(sandeep) yesterday about an ml they have he seemed a nice enough fella(don't all salesman when you are looking to buy:rolleyes:)but there was no mention of a hpi certificate or warranty(not to say they arn't included in any sale)which seemed strange,do you mind me asking what the problem was with your E55 when you bought it close to where i'm looking?

Hi Steve

The car itself was ok, it was the dealer I found appalling. They promised me an owners manual, wheel refurb, valet, various bits and pieces and, importantly to me, a new MB stamp in the book. I foolishly paid up front, and upon collection none of these things had been done. They said would send a manual and sort a refurb company out for me. I took the car away, as had travel up by train

More worryingly, upon inspection, the book had been stamped by MB, but tippexed over (could still see through it). I called the MB garage, who said they had only done an oil change, and that the required service would be £600 odd, IIRC, which the dealer was refusing to pay for.

Dealer had agreed in writing to the above, and it took legal advice and the threat to reject the car to eventually persuade them to pay for the service at my local MB. I let the other items go as wanted nothing else to do with them - they were spoiling the experince for me.

Wasnt at all happy. Still makes me bristle. I can pm you the director's name, but none of the sales team were called Sandeep, so its likely a different outfit. It was just the memory of my experience with a Leicestershire 'prestige' dealer that rang alarm bells.

Thanks for the info, sounds like you had a bad experience & not what you expect when buying a prestige car(new or unused)the tippexing in the service book is both unexceptable & fraudulent(that alone would make me steer well clear of that dealer),i have found a few ml's at various approved used mb dealerships & although there prices are higher like for like at least i'll have the peace of mind that comes with buying aproved used with mb.

I suppose the only saving grace was that you got it for less money (I think) than £15999 which it first turned up at - and I imagine Toyota (who were selling it) would have done nothing to it (px to clear type stuff).

So you did well but I agree, it is a shame you had such a **** dealer.

My dealer was top of the pile, but I paid top dollar for mine - so I guess you get what you pay for!

I notice there is now one like mine, with a fair few options, but an 04 plate with slightly more miles for nearly £18k.

I paid less than that for mine a year ago!

"Good luck with that..."

I called a friend who works in Syston. No direct experience, but he asked around the office for you, and generally they have a good name in the area. HTH

Much appreciated Bobby,i am away on holiday for 2 weeks later today so on my return hopefully the car is still available & i'll make the trip to view/test drive it:)

Couldn't agree more. His margin must have been negligible, as when he finally coughed up for the service, he grumbled that he'd now only broken even on the car. I suspect it had been reduced pre stock rotation. The window price was still higher when i first saw it. Ne'er mind, eh:)

£18k is a bit ambitious, granted. This one?
Automotive Dreams : MERCEDES E55 AMG SALOON CLIMATE SEATS RADAR CRUISE FMBSH + MORE
It's certainly got bells and whistles though (no Pano though?)

Lucky devil, have a good one!

Lol. You should have told him about the very small violin you could hear in the background.

Let me get this straight, a lot of people are going through a tough time but he took a gamble thinking he could make a large quick buck off that one and lost.

My sympathy never diminished because it started at zero!

I can tell without looking that is the one because it mentions RADAR CRUISE in capitals.

I don't think I have that.

It just has a sunroof - not the second roof which I presume is the pano? Mine doesn't have any sunroof!

It does have a few more bits than mine:

Keyless Entry and Ignition
Garage Door Opener
Front seat Climate control
Front Driving Dynamics Seats
Massaging Seats
Harmon Kardon Sound system
Tyre Pressure monitor

...still not worth that though.

That's the badger, RADAR CRUISE! Dealer is in B'ham.

From the photos it does seem to have it - to the left of the gearstick, on the silver panel, aft of the C/S/M button. A knurled wheel lets you set the distance between you and the car in front (so I gather). Can just make out the black insert. Not an option I have, nor would be comfortable using - I only even use cruise control very occasionally, normally in average speed check areas.

The original owners of some cars must have had an open chequebook, given some of the prices of optional extras. Even nowadays, I still appreciate 4 'leccy windows and parking bleepers! The advertised car would be better without the distronic, garage door opener, and blinds, but with Pano instead, IMHO.

What do you reckon it's worth, John?

Don't forget that Mercedes UK register lots of cars for their own use, and they specify their cars nicely (not employee company cars).

Even before MBWorld at Brooklands MB had a big fleet of AMGs for owner driver training, and SUVs for the same reason.

You may have noticed 80% of R-Class are 56-reg, and that's because MB did a big promotional event for the ML, GL, and R Classes, and Rs were used for shuttle work to/from the venue, and there were lots of them!!

I use cruise for the same reason! Never at other times because I've not had adaptive. Even then it wouldn't be often, as we bought the Juke for big journeys and my work journey doesn't warrant it...

I'm not sure on value but given the most recent valuation SPX did for an E55 - I would say £12k/£13k tops?
