I may need to occasionally tow a very small trailer - can anybody recommend where I could buy a detachable system from including the relevant electrics etc?

I'm not going to be dragging a caravan - just a small box trailer quite rarely :)

Would like a detachable one as I don't want the towbar to be visible 99% of the time!

As a start point I'd be asking at a dealer. To be honest, that may be your only option as I doubt any of the normal towbar companies would do one for the R129 (simply not enough demand).

I'm not even sure that M-B ever did! Even though (as you know) the R129 is rated for a braked trailer of up to 1500 kg.

There was a mamber here selling a 129 with a tow bar, maybe make him an offer

I'm pretty sure he ended up selling the car - I remember the debate about taking the towbar off it...

Watling do one at a price of £232.65

Their price list below covers probably more vehicles than any other maker , including Mercs right back to the Pontons !

I bought a Watling bracket for my 500SEL and found it very substantial as well as easy to fit .

Thanks Derek. I take it all the electrical connections are in the kit too? Are they relatively easy to wire up?

That is only the metal bracket - you would probably be best going to the dealer for the electrics - or else a towing centre as people like Towsure do kits for various cars .

Kieron, I bought a 2nd hand kit for my SL off ebay a few years ago, but never got round to fitting it (a phase of buying anything interesting and unusual for the car!). Don't know about detachability, but it came with electrics, which may need some 'making good'. Never tried or tested, but I paid about £140 from a seller with good feedback.

If you like, I'll bring it up next time I go home and you can have a look?

Sounds great Mike - thanks :)
