Recently went to insure a SL350, got great online quote based on full no claims bonus. Then went to company which I had previous SL320 insured with to get evidence of NCB. Horror of horrors- as policy was a limited mileage one, it is classed as classic insurance and, sir, there is no NCB with such a policy ( cannot find any mention of this in the paperwork) Go back to company giving online quote and ask them to transfer NCB from another policy (on Mitsubishi Shogun) -sorry, cannot do that until policy expires (Nov 08) and oh by the way, please send £600 plus(that is on top of premium paid) I let things sit for a day, then go back to online quote company and get them to cancel Mitsubishi policy-this is done- and they agree to transfer NCB to SL350. Only problem they cannot offer protected NCB until expiry of policy (???)-decide to live with this. I then seek quotes for Mitsubishi on basis of no NCB. Final result - SL350 fully comp £380 (but NCB not protected), Mitsubishi £317( no NCB) To put these prices into perspective, together £697 is actually cheaper than the next best quote for the SL alone which was £700 odd. I just hope I have not suffered permanent ear damage from the dreadful music all these companies seem to play.
