Recently went to insure a SL350, got great online quote based on full no claims bonus. Then went to company which I had previous SL320 insured with to get evidence of NCB. Horror of horrors- as policy was a limited mileage one, it is classed as classic insurance and, sir, there is no NCB with such a policy ( cannot find any mention of this in the paperwork) Go back to company giving online quote and ask them to transfer NCB from another policy (on Mitsubishi Shogun) -sorry, cannot do that until policy expires (Nov 08) and oh by the way, please send £600 plus(that is on top of premium paid) I let things sit for a day, then go back to online quote company and get them to cancel Mitsubishi policy-this is done- and they agree to transfer NCB to SL350. Only problem they cannot offer protected NCB until expiry of policy (???)-decide to live with this. I then seek quotes for Mitsubishi on basis of no NCB. Final result - SL350 fully comp £380 (but NCB not protected), Mitsubishi £317( no NCB) To put these prices into perspective, together £697 is actually cheaper than the next best quote for the SL alone which was £700 odd. I just hope I have not suffered permanent ear damage from the dreadful music all these companies seem to play.

Goes to prove the old saying

"what's cheap's dear"

"Fred" have I got the apostrophes right there ?:D

I was faced with a problem when I bought the 129 in 2005 I just insured it on a new policy at £700 with NU that insured my V70R.

Then I heard about the MB insurance, the guy said that I could use the no claims bonus for the V70 on the MB 230 that I have, and that worked out at under £400, interesting as NU would not do that, though they underwrite MB insurance

If you have a good broker they will negotiate a NCD based on claim-free driving. I had a classic policy on my SL but when I bought the Porsche had the same problem. Mayfair Insurance gave me the equivalent NCD based on a letter from Peter Best.

It's the "classic" bit that means no NCD. My SL500 is on (low) limited annual mileage, but a normal policy with protected NCD. I looked at classic policies this year but couldn't find one cheaper than the normal one it's on now with Elephant.

I went through my broker when I bought my ex Co car. He just asked had I had any accidents in it I said no and I got full NCB (protected) with the insurance company reserving the right to check ..............which they didnt.

Sometimes going through a good broker makes so much sense.....

I wont put his firm's on here but if anyone wants it PM me and I'll give you his number...:bannana:
