Hi, we have a Renault Senic Megane , which is mainly used by her indoors , its diesel with about 80,000 miles and great engine.
Recently we have had trouble selecting reverse and 1st gear(although 1st isnt so bad) . Is it likely to be the clutch ? or maybe gearbox?
Any advice would be appreciated. Leigh

Coincidentally I'd been having similar problems with the reverse gear of my Audi A2.
Research showed that it could be the reverse light switch. When it seizes it can hinder gear selection. HTH

Clutch (and actuating mechanism, e.g. worn clutch cable or low clutch fluid) will definitely affect gear selection, so car worn clutch bearing (start engine in neutral, and listen for a different sound when you depress the clutch)

Could also be gear selector mechanism / linkage (are 1st and reverse in the same direction?) or even engine mounts.

Could also be a gearbox issue.

Start with the easy / quick / cheap tests and work your way up.

Well if your losing pressure double check your install and everything make sure reservoir full of fluid. I doubt you would have to re bleed if you said everything was working fine before. Another thing i would check but i doubt this would be it are your shift linkages a bit loose?

I dont know much about french cars but normally these things are down to linkages..

Got one of those as well chiefski, like the one you are trying to sell.

any more info on linkages?
