A lot of people that i have spoke to have told me if you sand alloys back to bare metal it is important to prime them with etch primer as it eats in to the alloy and adheres better.

However i have bought a wurth wheel spray kit which consists of rust-stop primer x2,laquer spray special silver and laquer spray special clear these cost a few pound and am not keen to spend another 15 pound on etch primer what i want to know is it a must to use this primer or is the rust-stop primer in my kit good enough?

Dont want to make a mess of the whole job thats why am asking?

Acid etch primer is needed for bare alloy to make the paint adhere properly. You can get a can from one of the motor factors for about £7-8:)

Can't fathom out why anyone would want to use 'rust stop' primer on aluminium alloy that doesn't rust! Use the right stuff, then you won't regret it later.

Rust stop primer is made for different types of metals including alloy it was in a wheel refurb kit so all i can assume is that it is the right stuff and it seems to be a very popular kit.

I was not sure if the acid etch primer would be some thing additional to this kit to use first however EDZ649 seems to have confirmed this.
