Does anyone know if a GLS 450d comes with a Thatcham Approved tracking device? Or do I need to buy one? Some insurance company requires this as mandatory and it need to be an approved thatcham device. If I need to buy any advice on where to purchase please? Thanks for your help .

Does any car come with a tracking device as standard? They may be dealer fitted options but if so probably rare.

.As for where to buy, do Thatcham provide a list of approved installers?

Any idea on the excellence package Digital extras that MB offers? Looking at it, it comes with the Stolen Vehicle help ( partner Vodafone automotive) is this same as Thatcham approved tracking device?

Unless it is shown on the Thatcham website I'd say no. Insurers really only recognise Thatcham approved systems

No.

But. Check your insurer's wording. Some want a traditional tracker - others just need real time tracking of some sort.

MB's own Guard 360 digital extra and stolen vehicle recovery assist may be sufficient for some insurers who are less specific about a tracker.

So as an example - here's a link to LV's website that looks like common sense.

Thank you for your response. The NFU mutual insurance insist it must be a Thatcham approved tracker. Has anyone used this insurance company before?

Thanks, do you know if Admiral require trackers? And if so would the MB own Guard 360 digital extra and stolen Vehicle recovery be sufficient for Admiral?

You need to be putting these questions to the insurance companies.

It will depend on many individual circumstances not just the vehicle.

I’d rather buy something that is Mercedes-Benz approved than by some external outfit .

What MB approved product satisfies the insurance company in this instance?
There are always other insurance companies. There is only one Mercedes-Benz : work up to the standards of Mercedes-Benz; not down to the standards of others .

Mercedes-Benz do run their own insurance company : I had both my Ponton and my Fintail insured with them for normal use and with business cover , something no other insurer I tried at the time would quote for , but they were happy to do it as encouraging the use of Classic Mercedes-Benz vehicles was good for their corporate image .

Mercedes-Benz insurance was also very reasonably priced .
