.. oh dear, he/she pulled out of a petrol station on the A1 beside me today and merrily drove several miles with more smoke pouring out of it than Bunsfield.. Despite several people flashing their lights.

Looked like a fill up with diesel on a petrol car :dk:

Just a Smart on its last legs-no fuel mix up involved-altho much" oil" will be being burned. Rumour has it the early engines tend to peg out around 70k. You need to watch "The Swimmer" with Burt Lancaster to understand why.

Thanks for that, familiar with the film above not sure how it relates as I didn't watch it all the way through :D

Anyhoo juding by the magnificent cloud of smoke obscuring half the county I suspect wrong fuel still.

what colour was the smoke?

heavy white smoke will be diesel, heavy blue will be oil.

If it's diesel, and he runs the engine hard and hot, he will destroy it, what happens is the diesel collects in the rings on lighter throttle loads, and then detonates with nowhere to go, trashing the rings, bye bye motor.

I was in the Mercedes Showroom in Blackpool the other day. As you do, just picking up some spares for 124 Works.

There was a whole heap of interest in the assembled flock/nusiance/gaggle of Smarts in the showroom. (What is the collective noun for a group of Smart cars?)

The parts guy said they were doing plenty of PDI's on Smarts. So if you maintain Smarts you could be in for a good run, up and coming.

Collective noun for a group of Mercedes Sales Closure Executives - A Wallet. I'm sure you can think of a better one than that?!

Spelling Police alert. Is it Smarts (plural of Smart) or Smart's (belonging too)??

Heavy white as in you could not see anything behind the smart car..

When a Smart burns oil you don't see the blue except a tiny amount on start up!

The filled it with diesel as it was so much better on fuel than their gas guzzler MB they'd just been driving they thought it must be a CDi......
