Door illumination upgrade

it can't be tacky by definition - it's OEM :)
Personally, I think my cheap Chinese lights are about 20 times more tasteful, but hey - what do I know LOL

And my cheapo’s [emoji106]

Pics please? How much etc please?

Righto, you need to scour eBay, but they range between £80 to (as seen in previous posts) £150 from Merc...(I paid the lower end, and yes I'm silly!)

Here are my lights "at night" (taken at 19:00)...

And here they are this morning at 08:10 :)

Here is a pic of the units showing the heatsinks (from the web, I wasn't hauling mine out of the door to show you that) :)

The lenses in the pic above are NOT sunken, they are clear and flush with the bottom.
A lot of the Chinese/cheapy ones actually have a lens that protrudes from the bottom, which (in some cases) may foul a door - whereas the Merc ones are a direct size replacement.

The only difference was the connector changed location & direction so they are a bit "deeper".

The ones I ordered were part no A2138200703
The ones in the pic above are A1668205900 - so there may be some different ones about (i.e. Merc / AMG) but the 703 ones are the STAR.

Very nice, I like those. Fortunately mine don’t foul the door opening. I’ll keep an eye out for a set.

I'm just cautious that Merc put heatsinks on them as the high power bulb/lens may create heat, and the cheaper ones would either be less bright, or get hot (assuming you leave your door open for any length of time) and risk damaging something - thus the proper ones may be a safer bet :)

(or they're just massively over engineered...)

The lights are actuated by SAM, and go off after 5 minutes of the door been open, so highly unlikely to cause any overheating problems, considering the aftermarket ones are LED (COB) and as they are not monitored, no need for resistors, hence low heat output.

The OEM ones above look much better, than the AMG pictured earlier - in my opinion, of course.

I’m keeping my door lights. Everyone who’s seen them thinks they look great. [emoji41]

I fitted mine, same ones as Markssl bought, I'm pleased.

I noticed that the red illumination is not as bright as the OEM's, but in the dark it is not an issue.

Guess you started something there Markssl, my son fancies them for his C Class saloon (the black car in my avatar), another son wants them for his ML63 AMG 6.3 V8; daughter in law wants them for her new C class estate, wish I hadn't mentioned the puddle lights, guess I am committed to buying pressies for all of them now .

Haha nice one! No the red isn’t as bright but you can still see it. There might be better ones on EBay with brighter red but I’m happy with these!

I’m really drawn to these, despite the potential tackiness, although like already said they are oem so can’t possibly be tacky :D:D
A friend of mine had similar on a new Audi and I quite liked them!
