Door lock w124 woes

Could all this be connected?

Car was parked up for a few hours somewhere not very nice and bonnet star was mangled, front wing keyed and now the drivers door lock is simply spinning round. That happened a couple of weeks ago.

Central locking through alarm was still working, so I was planning a leisurely repair to door lock... (stealer quoted 4 weeks for new lock (using original key)) However a few days ago the electrics on the central locking circuit went dead. Fuse (D) is fine, but nothing is working on that circuit (locking, boot closer, interior lights, etc).

I took to local garage (not stealer and trustworthy) and he's recommending getting the new lock asap and working from there. He's concerned the locking control unit may also be fritzed.

It is a real pain - having to crawl across from passenger side - boot won't pull itself shut, etc.

Is there anything else I should be looking for?

Thanks everyone.

I'd check that fuse again or more specifically the fuse box where it sits. Clean the contacts and replace the fuse even if it looks OK.

If it's just that circuit then the fuse must be suspect

Should you require a complete lock set (for a 124 estate) with 4 keys then PM me as I have one spare.

I'd start looking on ebay for a new central locking compressor, they're quite cheap used and it's not unknown for them to cark it.

Sniff your old one and see if it's burnt out.

Compressor

Will try sniffing! But compressor is only a few months old.

until you said the interior lights and rear door motor i would have gone with the locking system but they have nothing to do with it - this has to be an electrical problem and either the fuse block or the fuse has to be number one suspect.

Start at the fuse box with a multimeter and see if one side of the fuse has power to it. If not you may need to lift the box out and check the wiring underneath. If there is power then clean the contacts thoroughly and check the fuse (again).

After that it's just a case of elimination finding out where the wiring has failed

I cleaned the fuse - both ends of which were looking somewhat corroded. Forgot to say that everything on the circuit died and then for a brief 10 minutes it sprang back to life on the same day - but since has been dead.

Is getting the fuse box out an easyish job? Am trying to find the multimeter - must have put it somewhere 'safe' as it is nowhere to be seen!
