Door mirror parking aid problem on 2005 E55 AMG

In the passenger door mirror parking aid operation,the door mirror glass only moves very slightly and certainly does not tilt far enough downwards so that you can see the curb.
Has anyone had the same problem and if so can it be rectified?

I think there is an initialisation process you can do, described in the manual, to set the range of movement

If your mirror's memory and movement both work fine then it will be that ...

If you tilt the mirror manually to the position you want, then press the memory button. When you next put it in reverse it should drop down.

Set it where you need (in reverse with left mirror selected), press the driver's green memory button and then pull the mirror joystick back (down) to set/memorize the position.

It should stay in that position until you exceed 10kpm forwards or select the right mirror button or put it into Park. The normal rear-view positions of both mirrors are set with the driver's seat memory: green button and seat number. You can inadvertently set the Parking mode to rear-view and save that: you have to be sure which mode you are in when setting and saving it.

I've recently replaced the left mirror mechanism...
