Door Seal Question

I own a 1991 Mercedes 190E 2.3. The front passenger door seal doesnt seem to be flushed against the door as well as the front driver door. There is a small gap between the thin lip and the frame of the car. The driver's side is perfectly flushed against the door; no gap.

We had an accident and the entire passenger door was replaced. When we got it back we could hear the rush of the outside air from within the interior of the car and during rain water would leak in from one spot of the door.

What can i do to correct the seal? I tried popping it out from one point but only managed to curl the rubber when forcing it back into the door. The door itself seems to be sitting fine.

are you sure the door doesnt just need adjusting.. The latch on the B pillar can be taken in a bit..

I assume you simply loosen the latch and move it inwards then re-tighten???
This will compress the rubber door seal more? Correct?

Looks like the door needs lifting slightly on the hinges.

How?

quantass,
sorry to hijack the thread but I have the same issue and if someone kindly answers my questions should help you also:)

Loosen the bolts, lift the door, tighten the bolts.

Sounds easy but I guess a bit of trial and error is involved to get it just right.......... and an extra pair of hands!!!!

Thanks will give it a go:thumb:

Np, George. I am going to try the door lifting too. Thanks for the hijack. Saved me from asking the same question. Though i have no idea on how to start.

So i open the door and peer into the space between the open door and the frame of the car. Identify the hinge and bolt and loosen then lift, and tighten?

I will likely make some photos to ask what to do.

Here's a photo of my door attachment:

So what you're saying is i should loosen the bolts at the very top and very bottom on the door-side (not car frame side), lift the door slightly, then tighten the bolts ?? For the record, the open door is located on the right-side of the image.

Thanks for the info.

Is the B-pillar the hinge in the center of the image with the black rubber surrounding it? So this can be moved horizontally inwards toward the car?

Thanks

Hi George.

Can you clarify? Are you referring to the bolts on the car frame (not the door)? Loosen those and push the car door inward (horizontally) then tighten?

I got the door seal to fit properly now.

I opened the door and looked at the hinges. The hinge connected to the car frame (not the door), the top hinge, has 2 bolts. While keeping the door positioned with the car jack I unscrewed both bolts. I could see the door lower slightly. I then jacked the door higher in effect pushing the door inward. I guessed at how much to push laterally then tightened the bolts.

Success. Thank you ALL.
