DPF delete

I wonder how many DPF failures are due to the wrong engine oil being used. The reason I ask is when looking for some oil for my RRS and called in to my local Ford and Mazda dealer. I asked the store man for the oil specified in the handbook (it is a Ford oil specification) and he knew nothing about such oil. He did mention that those DPF's were a cause of many problems, I wonder why.

That seems to say that removing the DPF and therefore remapping *might* cause problems with future MOT's as VOSA falls in line with EU directives.

Clear as mud then.

The current VOSA ruling is it must pass the emissions specification for that vehicle as given by VOSA and uploaded into the emissions testing computer. Diesels must pass the metered smoke test. Other than that it doesn't matter if it has a cat, dpf or not

This is exactly my understanding. The tester doesn't need to know if there is a cat, and doesn't care if the cat has been tampered with or looks to have been tampered with, the only criterion is an emissions test pass

Similarly, I doubt whether any future MOT will look for remaps - how could it? It will look for an emissions test pass. That may, of course, be required to be within specified limits per-vehicle-model in the future

That's how I understand it too and I think that's what the 'consultation' document states. If the remap keeps within the manufacturer's spec for emissions then no probs.

Can 'power' remaps do that?

Hello Alex,

What you want you ain't gonna get from a big diesel - I saw that glint in your eyes last Saturday.

Sure they are punchy, but at 4200ish it's all over.

For the kind of proper power you want, it's got to be an AMG.

Big fast needs 500+ bhp and a petrol controlled loud pedal :thumb:.

That drift car is wild, awesome car control.

There's a place in Huddersfield that offers DPF cleaning for £350 if its of any use , just did a quick google on it.
There seems to a few who offer delete and remap options, but seems a bit drastic on a newish car to me, would like to see some stats or someone's car who's had it done.
Cheers
Gary
