Well OK, the Merc doesn't exactly win but it puts up a pretty good fight

I think the Merc got a bad start. ~0.6mph and ~0.3sec off shows that the M5 and E63 are very much in the same league

Interesting to see the result had the Merc got away cleanly.

I notice someone rev up to 3k - not sure if they maintained that before setting off.

That was a standard E63 AMG.

If it was the performance pack E63 AMG with the LSD the result would have been different!

TBH it shouldn't need the PP to race the M5, a standard E63 should be enough. Like I said last time MB need to pull their finger out.

I do agree though that the MB driver had a bad start. Think he got caught sleeping.

But the standard E63 comes with less bhp (518bhp) compared to the M5's 552bhp and no LSD and yet it still manages to be a better drivers car than the new M5!

I think MB are doing alright, the E63AMG is a better car anyway, all the reviews are placing it ahead of the F10 M5 in terms of handling and driver focus etc..

In a straight line drag race a standard non PP E63AMG will loose to the more powerful M5 even though it's not by much...

I think a PP E63AMG will easily beat the M5 in a drag race!

Bottom line, in reality there is little between the M5 and the E63 in a straight line. I was very impressed with the Benz, didnt expect it to be only 0.3 sec behind the M5 at around 150mph.

I wonder how much slower my w211 E55 would be - so I googled it

this suggests that an e55 will hit 150mp in 22.8 secs, which isnt that far off?

So I'll save my money and stick with my e55 I suppose

It really doesn't matter too much about a little drag race like that. The BMW is BUTT ugly! I would never buy one. Who cares about silly statistics if you enjoy driving it and actually get a excited when you walk out of your house and see a beautiful car on the drive.

In my opinion of course.

I'm afraid it was a PP E63 It came down to the M5's DSG box as with similar power and the AMG being lighter with a big torque advantage it should have walked away from the M in the drag race at least.

The M5 also beat the E63 with a quicker track time, looks like Mercedes need to start looking for a DSG box.

Totally agree. I drove the M3 a short while back and also tested the current C63 Coupe. The M3 gearbox does it for me, it's just so much quicker. Don't know why MB are not producing this sort of gearbox.

They love their wet clutches and slushes too much.

I imagine they will have to start on one, if not already.

Evo did spare the blushes of both Mercedes and BMW by not running the Panemera Turbo S instead, don't get me wrong, I think it's a butt ugly car and I'm not fond of it but there's no arguing it's quick.

It was not the PP, the PP has red brake calipers for a start...

Have you read the Auto car review? they even said the car they tested did not come with the optional PP!

Plus the M5 does not have DSG gearbox, It's called a DCT
