Started the car this morning and as I drove off the glow plug warning light came on for a short time and went off again - an indication of a glow plug needing replacing...??

Trouble is in April after http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/gene...scue-now-see-if-warranty-direct-pays-out.html

I had all glow plugs replaced as they had the access to them paid for by Warranty Direct. I know a glow plug is only around £15 but the labour is best part of a £100.

So do you think I have grounds to ask MB Swindon to replace this free or is 7 months fair wear and tear (around 6000 miles).

I think glow plugs are garanty for a year. I am waiting on NGK to reply to me as they burn in less then 6 month.
What brand of glow did they use?

No idea. sorry MB dealer - so assumed OEM.

As all MB dealer work is covered by a 1 or 2 year parts & labour guarantee, I would have thought that your first point of contact would be the MB dealer that replaced them 6 months ago.

just had 2xglo plugs replaced by dealer, warning light still came on,had a relay replaced on friday, seems to have solved the problem,p.s. total cost £250 for glo plugs&relay

I thought this too -- but was wondering if they are classified as a "wear and tear" item

I would expect the normal service life of a set of glow plugs to be more than 6 months even of you drove a significant distance since they were fitted.

Best contact the dealer in the week, but I would assume that they will want to see your can and run another diagnostic on it to ensure that the warning is not connect with another part of the system (relay etc).

6k miles and 7 months is not good enough. I had two go at about 3 yrs old; the next one failed at about 9 yrs and 140k miles at which point I had all 6 replaced. 80k miles and 5 yrs later later they are still going strong. They should just change it foc.

Car booked for Friday.

It was one of the glow plugs put in in April so all replaced for free.......plus a free wash & vacuum courtesy or MB Swindon,,,:thumb:

All good then :D.
I had one glow that is gone again too. Grrr... Only 9 month old. All look OK, but this one failed, I hope this is "the only one". :)

There's no need to be angry Olivier - you know what the root cause of this problem is.

Hi NC,
I think this is overheating as my mix is mighty explosive :)

This has started to happen on my E280CDI today (50,000, 3 years old next month) - the plug warning light stays on for 1 or 2 mins after starting from cold. Nothing in the handbook about what it means, so I guess I'll get them replaced before the warranty runs out!
