Hi all Ive got my car booked into have a power run on thursday just to get a benchmark figure for an Idea of before and after. Some forums seam to think that the E55 runs more than the quoted 469Bhp and some dont! so we will see:dk:.

Ive worked out how to turn off the ESP and ABS etc and for it to run in the so called dyno mode, but was just wondering from anybody who has experenice of an E55 on a dyno can tell me if it is best to do the run in 3rd of 4th??! as again heard people say both, although will it hit the top speed limiter in 4th?

Oh and also if so has anybody got figures for a standard car??

Cheers peeps

Dyno mode is absolutely required. Someone who has experience of running an auto on a dyno is also required. The last thing is some blooming big straps!!

I think generally AMG engines are healthier than the published figures suggest. Having dynoed my own car I believe that more so. My car was 296bhp at the wheels - to get the published 349bhp at the flywheel would mean transmission losses of just 18% which is about right for a modern manual - an auto should be more.

So either the transmission is super efficient, or it's a little healthier than published figures would suggest.

The power you get will depend on which dyno you go to, who's driving it and the temperatures in the dyno room at the time. I'd also check to see if they are able to plug in through the OBD2 port and give you readings of intake temperature, ignition timing and fuelling as part of the run. You'll get a nicer run in 4th (more load for longer) but the dyno may not be able to go above 155mph and unless you've de-restricted your car, neither will the car, so 3rd is probably the more likely. As BobbyDazzler says you have to have the car in Dyno mode otherwise it won't do anything...

Other than that have fun :)

Well said.

Had mine on Dyno the other day after pulley/ecu upgrade, 3rd gear used due to dyno limiter, and yes dyno mode is a must, also make sure you cool the engine down between runs.

Well?.... keeping it to yourself, old bean?

:D

The procedure is different on the Clk63 i think, you should visit Mbworld you will find all the information you will ever need on your car.

Found mine when I had the problem with the missing "oil check" from the OBC.

Here's the total procedure for the E55 (nicked from another site!)

1. Turn ignition key to position 1 (SRS light on).

2. Make sure digital temperature gauge shows in instrument cluster. If it doesn't, use the arrow buttons on the left side of wheel to scroll through menu until it does.

3. Turn ignition switch off and back on again to position 1 (SRS light on).

4. Quickly, while the SRS light is on, push the trip odometer reset button at the far left of the instrument gauge cluster 3 times quickly.

5. Your display should now have a voltage reading, like "UB: 12.0V" on the screen.

6. Hit the up arrow button on the left side of the wheel until you get to the display that reads "ESP Dynamometer Test".

7. Now go to the right side of the steering wheel and hit the plus (+) button once to light up the "on" button for ESP Dynamometer Test.

8. Start up the car - you're now in dyno mode. The display will read "ESP unavailable Diagnostic Test". The car will stay in dyno mode, even if you turn off the engine.

9. To turn dyno mode off, turn ignition off, then turn ignition switch to position 1 again and hit the minus (-) button on the right side of the steering wheel once until the display says "ESP Dynamometer Test Circuit 15 off." Turn off the ignition - you're back to normal and out of dyno mode.

Hi,

Who did your upgrades and what were your before and after dyno run numbers?

Jules

I'm having a race exhaust fitted by Car Planet Warrington in a couple of weeks so I'm having a before and after dyno test, this was an interesting read guys!

Hi, congrats on the MONSTER car you have there :thumb:

Myself and a couple other modded 55k's are heading up to Santa Pod on the 1st (weather permitting), would be nice if you could come too...

Paul,

Thanks also for the invite to Santa pod, unfortunately I cant make it.
Pretty full schedule most weekends up to Christmas.

Dyno mode turns off a lot of other things too (ABS monitoring, BAS etc). And the car records each time you change it from on to off and back again.

Don't ever drive the car in this mode.

The C63 and I assume the CLK63, have the ESP off (thats proper off, not ESP sport mode) reconfigured so if you were to Dyno it, that should allow it to occur so that the brain doesn't react to the front wheels not moving.
