E class Cab side window rattle

Hi there. My E Class Cab has an annoying rattle with windows up/roof down. Sounds like the window is missing a fastener etc within the door. Anyone else experienced this issue?

Yep my E500 does this. My old E350 didn't.

I removed the drivers side door panel and had a good look and couldn't see anything amiss.

I suspect that the window seals along the top of the door need replacing. When I bought the car there was a ton of gunk - dirt and leaf type mulch under the seals. I think that all this crap under the seals has caused them to lose their elasticity and so are not pressing against the glass strongly enough.

The seals are about £70 each - one on the interior side of the window and one the outside under the chrome strip.

I'm going to buy one exterior seal shortly and see if it makes any difference - if do I'll do the rest of them. Looks easy enough as a DIY job.

Thanks a lot for the advise. I’ll take a look at the seals. It’s only on the drivers side so maybe the wear is also due to the window usage.

Have a look for something called gummi pfledge. BMW use it to rejuvenate door seals and stop squeeks n rattles.

Worth a try.

+1 for the Gummi (didn’t they used to do bears?) Stuff.

Get the rubbers as clean as you can ensuring you remove any baked on mould. Then apply the Gummi fairly liberally. Hand wipe off any excess.

It lasts a long time keeping all rubbers looking, feeling and operating as new. Great on SunRoof seals and the like.

I have some of this and it doesn't seem to make any difference - the smears it leaves on the windows are a a right pain to remove though.

I have always used the Halfords rubber lubricant you find in the motorbike section. Keeps the rubber supple and doesn't smear on the glass.
