Hello,

First post etc, sorry if this is posted in the wrong sub forum.

Been down to the local dealers today to enquire about deals on a new e class. After some haggling they have offered me a new E220 AMG with 19 inch wheels for £33,500. Not fussed about the wheels but the car is from stock so already built.

Obviously I could get a better price from DtD or the like, but the local dealer has offered me a fair price for my part ex, so dealing with them saves the hassle of off loading that. I did ask him if removing the part ex would make any difference to the deal but he said no.

What are peoples thoughts on this deal? Has anyone managed to squeeze a better deal out of a dealer?

Tony

Have you driven it? 19" wheels may give it a harsh ride that you find unacceptable.

Didn't think about that to be honest. The car I test drove had 18's..

The 19 "tyres will be a lower profile and hence stiffer sidewalls and may possibly be rather more expensive to replace, did the car you drove have AMG suspension ? (assuming the one you were offered has)

Yeah. Spec was the same except the wheels.

I've got 18s on mine and its fine but you do feel the odd bump. I would not go for the 19's. Had them on my previous car and you lose all comfort.

Sounds like a pretty good deal via main dealer. I managed to get slightly better on a PCP deal for same model with 7G Automatic via main dealer. Was turned off 19" wheels based on other postings, and also didn't really see the need for it.

And are you buying on PCP or cash ?

You will always find a better deal, most internet companies I have found seem to offer leasing deals more so than PCP and so depends on your preference. If the car is in stock then go for it !!

And just to add, I have had my E220CDI AMG for nearly three months now and totally pleased with it - great looker, drives well and very comfortable.

Still can't believe I have bought one :)

I've got the 19" wheels on my e220 amg sport and whilst the ride is slightly harder, it's still comfy. However the cabin noise is louder from the lower profile tyres on our crappy roads. That aside, I much prefer the look of it when it is parked next to someone else's at work who has got the standard 18" wheels.

Thanks for the responses. Interesting comments on the 19's. Looking at a PCP

Thats about 12% off if it doesn't come with ILS and about 14% off if it does. Good deal but only if you plan to buy the car after the PCP period. If your plan is to change, then a lease will work out cheaper. IMHO of course

I want more flexibility than a lease offers. My current car was on a PCP and ended up buying it at the end of the agreement.

Ah! You should go for it then. It is a 'new' model and has a desirable engine so getting 11.5% off is a good deal.

I managed only 10% off an undesirable 4 pot petrol engine W212 4 months after it was released.

Don't feel obliged, but can you advise on PCP how much this deposit and monthly payments are being worked out to be ?

I got a pretty good PCP on an e250 amg cab. 8.5-9k off retail. Discount varied quite a bit from all brokers. Just need to look around.
Had it 3 months now and love it.
It was also a stock car which came with the new style 18 amg wheels. Quite the opposite as I wanted the 19 inch but couldn't have the upgrade as it was stock.
Can do a swop plus cash deal on the 19 if u preferred the 18s.

I negotiated 15% on my E350 and by the time we'd finished and the car had turned up with wheels I didn't order or want it was 18.1%. If the car is ex-stock then I'd have expected to get a discount toward the top of the range - 11.5% isn't bad but this is easily achievable on a new car to order.

Mine's on 18's and is as smooth as silk on the road, but I'd be wary of spoiling the ride with anything bigger. Definately drive before you buy.

.

Thanks chaps. Going to talk to another couple of dealers and see if I can get a bit more off.

That's what puts me off leasing. A lease is designed to control your next car purchase.

There's leases and PCPs. I went to look at a new car recently and thought I wanted a PCP (pay your monthly rent, have choice of returning it, buying it or px-ing it if you have a surplus value at the term of the PCP), but on a straightforward Personal Contract hire (same period, you just hand it back at the end with no choices) was £100 a month cheaper.

So I went for that.
