Hi looking at purchasing a facelift 2013 e class but have noticed different style drls. Some models have a straight row of lights whereas others have 2 z shaped drls. Was this another facelift ???

If it looks like this, it has the optional intelligent light system fitted (it's a good system we have it on our car).

I think you are referring to what is known as the 'Hockey Stick' DRLs on the early W212s that were replaced by the straight ones on later models.

Its expensive, but the mod is possible.

OP States he's looking at facelift 212's post 2013 like the image posted above.

"Straight row" is the normal Drls and the " 2 Z's" are the intelligent light system which was about £850 extra up until about January 2015. All "E" Coupes since then have the intelligent lights as standard.

my 2010 W212 E350 has a setting in the menu to activate or deactivate ILS. However if you try and activate, it says it cannot as only available in left hand drive mode. There is another setting to switch from left and to right hand.

Never understood what this means or does.

Allows you to set the lights for driving on the left or right ie in UK or in Europe.
Presumably you need to select left mode first if you want to deactivate/activate

It is meant to say 'left/right hand traffic' Mercedes got the wording wrong.

Set it so it says Left Hand Drive and then you can turn it on and your lights will be set up for the UK.

LOL, been driving this car for 6 years now and not noticed this issue.

What exactly does this ILS do on a 2010 car? Anything special?

Also for the OP, my car has constantly on LED lights on the front spoiler. They are nor straight but have a tick on them.

OK for a start your light beam is being cut off a lot lower than it should be, so you are loosing loads of light down the road. Plus the ILS doesn't work when you set it to right hand traffic, the ILS moves the lights around to light more of the road etc.

Turn it on, I think you will be impressed.

On a facelift he is asking why some cars have the led strips...

Looking forward to it. Ive always ben impressed with the way the car lights the road. Also the lights do swing with the steering wheel at lowish speeds.

Will set it correctly and report back.
