Not sure where to put this but since it heats the interior - here it is. Well, at least it should heat the interior.

The car has been standing for a few weeks whilst I was working away - about 8 weeks all told. Anyway, aside form the almost flat bettery, everything seemed OK when I first used it again. It's had a couple of good runs now - over 200 miles covered but on the way home last night I noticed it was a bit chilly inside. So I turned up the heat and all I got was more cold air.

Aircon is OK. Noticeably colder when it's on.
Heater would appear to work OK - goes through all the motions.

But no warm air. :( Any ideas or suggections please?

E class W211 2003. Avantgarde with Comand if that makes any difference. Oh, yes, it has the 4 place climate version as well.

Thanks

Dom

You need to get fault codes read , but I reckon that the "heat exchange shut-off motor" and pack up . It is located deep in the engine bay , beside the fuse box on the drivers side . It has 3 coolent pipes feeding it , it can be seen but acess ot it is restricted . They are a know problem with the 211 , I dont think that the part is expensive , it just recuires a lot of striping to change it

Yes, I've booked it in for next week. Might try and find a decent Indy near me though before then.

Thanks for this though - at least I can sound like I know what I'm on about when I go to the dealer. Might stop them from trying to rob me completely blind :D

Hi,
With the heater set to warm, tap the duo valve with a screwdriver handle or such, sounds like the valves could be stuck, if still no warm air, try disconnecting the wiring to the duo valve, as this should now default it to max heat, if this works then you have a problem with the control side of your heater.

Hi Andy
This Duo Valve - is it the thing described by SHORTY above?
Thanks
Dom

Yea item 30 is the prt i was refering to .If you look to the right of the drivers SAM (fusebox) housing it can be seen bolted to the car body

BINGO !!! You wonderful chaps.

I went a tapping - and now the thing works. Awkward to get to though, there was a bit of swearing involved ;)

Thanks loads.

Dom.

As it has done this it maybe advisable to remove the valve and dissassemble and clean it and give the coolant system a flush and refill.

Yes, I was thinking of putting the car in for "a good going over" by a decent indy. It was standing for a couple of months whilst I worked away so I am guessing this is why the thing stuck. But a main dealer service is not really what it needs, more like a bit of the TLC that you get at the independant specialists.
