im sure an answer to this has already been posted somewhere!

but if someone can answer it for me much appreciated ! :)

I have a 2000 model E-Class E220CDi which iv noticed is losing power.

let me explain - the car runs fine, picks up power etc without any prob on the straight and flat. but when im joining a motorway on an uphill sliproad no matter how much i floor the gas it still wont move, this means when using uphill slipraods to join motorways im doing so at just 40mph! then once on the motorway on the straight the car speeds up to 70, 80 and 90mph with no problem. I use this uphill slipraod day in day out and i used to join the motorway using it at 70mph without any probs but cant understand why this isnt the case anymore.

today i was on another road going uphill and the same happend again. this time midway up this steep road the lights were red and so i stopped. when the lights turned green i applied the gas the car moved and almost crawled uphill max speed it got to going up was just 30mph and this was on a 50mph road! even a milk float over took me  howevr when the road levelled out the car was fine and i overtook the milk float with ease.

Im thinking of getting it booked in this week to get the fault diagnosed, but thought id ask to see what it could possible be as im hoping it aint too expensive to fix!

A milk float !. Was the milk float fully laden with milk or running empty ?

Seriously, Is your car auto or manual, what is the milage, and when was the last time it was serviced ?

It could be a few things but most likely to be the MAF.

Can you hear the turbo? Normally a whooshing sound as you accelerate.

I had a similar issue, turned out one of the vacuum devices wasn't activating the turbo at all.

! even a milk float over took me

Time to run home and sell the car then:D :D

on a serious note if it is an auto i will suggest the maf or the gearbox needs resetting as it is seems OK on a level run as the maf will affect it all the time.

the cars is a diesel automatic with about 100,000 on clock, last it was serviced was about 8 months ago. noticed the car does judder a bit more than normal when sitting in stationery traffic.

btw whats a MAF? and what am i looking at in £ to get it fixed?

if its a maf could be simple cleaning to £45- £180.
If not it could be other issues as well.

mass airflow meter just in between your air filter and the engine
