C220 CDI Blue Efficiency SE
Hi

First off, I need to state that I'm a bit rubbish when it comes to car knowledge so apologies for basic questions.
I have had a C class for a few years now and its time for a change. I am considering moving up to E mainly for the "luxury" thing and the added goodies available.

I read some reports of reliability issues online though and I'm not sure which iteration of the E class they mean. These seem to relate to automatic transmission and software. I am probably going to buy on of either 2012 or 2013 vintage. But I really want a diesel auto ( hence my concern ) and chances are it will be 220 or 250.

An additional question if you don't mind. I reckon the AMG will be too firm for me and I'm knocking on a bit so want comfort above all. If I go for the SE or the Sport ( non-AGM) of this vintage am I in good territory?

Thanks for helping with my basic questions.

I've got a 2013 (pre facelift) E220 CDI SE Estate automatic. Ordered brand new and delivered 2nd March 2013, via Mercedes Leasing (company car).

Since then it has racked up 90,000 miles.

I came out of an Audi A4 S Line, and after that harsh suspension I wanted something softer and auto.

Its fantastic. Its pretty nippy, very quiet, I regularly get 58mpg on a steady run, tows the caravan.

In 90k, nothing......... NOTHING has gone wrong, just standard servicing at MB Dealers.

Highly recommend.

I have a 2011 E220CDi saloon automatic with the 5g box, which has done 282k miles in 4 years. In that time apart from Mercedes servicing it had a new set of rear shocks at 90k due to very slight play in one top mount, covered under warranty, and a new water pump at 220k, replaced free of charge as a goodwill gesture. Other than that, nothing has gone wrong at all.

The interior still looks like new, not a single rattle or creak, but I do have a few stone chips on the paintwork ;)

Over that time I have averaged just under 53mpg, with no oil needed between services. I have had 2 transmission fluid changes, both at 100k intervals, not required by Mercedes, but a good preventative measure.

Buy one and service it properly and you should be ok for a good few miles.

Just to add, mine is the Avantgarde on 17inch wheels, and is very comfortable on long journeys.
