Am seriously thinking about changing to one of these.

Does anyone know what the engine output will be on the 350cdi. Will it be the new 265hp engine.
Im not so worried about the increased hp, but am wondering with this remap or whatever it is to increase power over the current 3.0l engine fitted to e coupes whether it will of got rid of the noises that the current engines exhibit ?

Also I've always had silver cars with black leather and black conv roof. Wouldnt mind a change, any suggestions for colour combos? Bear in mind I will need to sell it easily in a yr or two !

Hi
I am led to believe the on the E Class 350cdi the increased power (265bhp) will be available from April 2011, on the official website the old powerplant is still available to order now so bit of time to go I`m afraid.

The best colour combo in my opinion is Palladium Silver with black hood and black interior, I`ve never been a fan of white cars but must admit the calcite white has grown me.

Saw one today with the Designo mauritious Blue....Wow what a colour but you can see its gonna get dated soon. Black is the only colour that never looks aged in my opinion. (My 2p`s worth)

Good luck with the purchase anyhow.

I have the 350CDI SE in met black and black leather. 3000miles and average from OBC 40MPG (probably 35). I had a CLK convertible before 200k Sport black and black! The E has easier steering, is much faster and economical and does not crash all over the rubbish roads that we have. I specifically avoided Sport spec because of the harsh ride and after a number of test drives decided on SE and smaller wheels. I now glide over roads that I used to crash over and the smaller wheels and tyres do not track the roads like my old AMG wheels and Conti tyres did. The problems that have been reported frequently on this forum are well documented. However, my May car has not exhibited any of these problems. Hood up or down there is no problem with the car being a diesel, either noise or smell.
I also had the piano black finish as I find the allu' finish tooo Ford Focus for my liking. I also has the multi-contour seats which I found superb in the my CLK and the same in the E. I did not have Command at £2000 as I do not need help navigating mots of the time and use my £70 TomTom when I do need one.
The performance is terrific and because the car is so refined you have to be very careful with your speed as you do not realise how fast you are going. It is easy to blow-away most other road users, although I have now checked my speed as I was getting too carried away with my right foot!
I have no regrets over model, engine or spec. I have driven the 220 and 250 and both a fine. However, I could not resist the lure of a V6!

even though the current 350cdi engine sounds like a bag of nails you are saying it does not distract from the enjoyment when the roof is down ? I guess they will have a fix for the noisy engine soon ?

Other option is a petrol equivalent. Im not worried about fuel consumption myself but future buyers may well be. Hence it could affect resale value, something I need to be very aware of as I tend not to keep them long. However in convertible guise I doubt there will be too much in it, since many might steer clear of the diesel/convertible combo for starters hence those choosing the convertible option may prefer petrol

My 350CDI does not sound like a bag of nails and has not had a fix. It is refined, quiet and does not smell. I used to work for Massey-Ferguson so I know what a noisy, smelly diesel sounds like, as I guess you do with the name John Deere!

They don't all sound this bad. Mine is as refined as the celebrated BMW Diesel fitted to my 2002 X5 although the Merc does sound more rattly with the bonnet raised. I was very biased against Diesels up until I went to order an X5 petrol. The salesman pleaded with me to try their Diesel demonstrator and I've been a convert ever since. The E350 CDI is just as good although BMW's equivalent might have improved. In my experience, only the 2.7 Diesel in the original Range Rover Sport has been more refined than these.

In my opinion, VED class is as likely to influence the decision of the person who will buy your car as MPG. And whatever the government do in future is likely to revolve around CO2 emissions. The current CDI is already 2 taxation classes below the 350 CGI and the revised version in 2011 is likely to be at least a class lower still. The 0-60 of the 265 hp CDI (in the saloon) is reported to be 6.2 seconds, the lighter, more slippery coupe can't be worse, while the current petrol coupe gets 6.3. The in-gear figures for the petrol obviously won't compete at all. Lastly, Diesel new car sales outstripped petrol for the first time this year - how many petrol coupe/convertible owners are members on this forum? Either they have nothing much to say (which can be viewed two ways) or the petrol car is just not popular. Rarity might help you in the used car market but I'd personally rather be selling tickets to the football than the polo.
