Quick question, occasionally, the new email icon ( that appears on the laptop computer when its switched on) is appearing on the centre console, above the radio channels ( its the envelope icon) How do I access it? And how / why is it appearing there? to the best of my knowledge, its not connected to the internet..... my mobile phone is connected of course via bluetooth, but would that allow it to access the internet? Thanks for your help / advice.

I believe it’s a message icon not email, it would appear on my S212, clicking on it in telephone mode displays the message and on some cars will actually read out the message As it does on my C238 coupe.

I think my car throws the same "envelope icon" from received SMS messages as well as from received emails. Both can be read as you explain.

I will try that so. Is it linked to the phone then via bluetooth? Because to the best of my knowledge, the car does not have access to the internet, at least in the same way as the computer, phones etc have. Thanks for your help.

I assume via Bluetooth although quite a few cars have inbuilt SIM or module that allows connection to Mercedes for monitoring/updates.

I don’t get emails on my cars as Diesel Benz does but that could be down to something not ticked in my phone settings.

I rarely bother with looking at messages via the car unless stationary as it’s too distractin.

Does the car not read these out and allow you to dictate a reply?

All the MB COMAND head units I've used from NTG 4 on have had the capability to read out an SMS message, but none have allowed me to dictate a reply.

I’m out of touch, my Volvo and F-Type can do so.

The latest MBUX allows messages being dictated. I assume it is the same for all model series cars, not only the W223 and EQS.

Still quite distracting if done by the driver on the move. Common sense should be used, be it an MB or a Volvo.

It does, but only when using an Android phone. iPhone users, like me, can't dictate messages.

If you remove your phone connection to the car , does the icon disappear Jim ?
I think that I've solved it...went into PHONE, ( a bit deeper then usual ) and clicked on the Envelope icon... lo and behold, every msg and call that was in the phone, come up in the display. So now I have to do a bit of house cleaning....:rolleyes:

I also get the envelope icon for WhatsApp messages. Never bothered going further as once I've parked up and finished the journey, at that point I just use my phone.

I'd have been the same, except that it seemed to be happening a bit more often, and I got curious....seemed to co-inside with the purchase of a new phone. So now all is solved...thing is, even after 3 years E class ownership....I'm still learning ( but on the positive side.....maybe that's a good thing.. ???. :D )
