E200 -Auto - noise at 2000 - 2200 rpm

Hi All, new here, hoping someone can help

when I put my petrol E200 (2000) auto under slight load it develops a noise just over 2000 rpm which goes away above about 2300 or so.

It does it in every gear, and at any temperature

Doesn't seem to affect the performance or gear change.

I can make it do it in Park if I am careful with the gas pedal to get the exact rpm.

I already had a new cat fitted about 10K ago (now 57K).

Hoping its some sort of shield or exhaust rattle/resonating and not an expensive gearbox thing.

Hi All

In case anyone else has the same/similar problem Ithought I'd provide an update on this.

We took the car to our local garage who fitted the replacement cat., and they have told us it has developed a fault - "the lining had broken down".

In fact turns out to be a broken bracket bteween the exhaust and the manifold.
