Can anyone give me advice/precautions on changing the fuel filter on an E220 CDi. Are there additional filters in the system (ie pre-fuel filters etc) that need to be considered.
Not too sure on the CDi's but mine has a pre filter located on the filter housing, it is a metal gauze and rarely needs changing.
When changing the main filter be sure to fill it with clean diesel before fitting, these cars have no means of manual bleeding so will take ages to get the fuel through and may flatten your battery.
no pre filter may need to pull thro the diesel with a air hose ie air blocks are common make sure you change all the seals they leak if not changed and hand tighten only the clips are made of plastic and the pipes break all the time i had 2 sets in 100k
i feel its worth changing the o ring pipe seals as well
nb they have been modified the old type got misshaped.
do not change the filter on a sat or sun in case you need to order parts
time to change about 10 mins
