e220 cdi 2006
hi people i have a 2006 e220 cdi and the car is in limp mode with engine light on, had it checked and code mentions the air flow mass sensor to be faulty, i have replaced the sensor and still slugish and holding in limp mode also engine light is still on, any ideas please?
also once i had replaced the maf, Do i need to clear codes?
thanks

Hi - the engine needs to have the ECU re adaptation reset - when the MAF is on its way out the ECU tries to counteract the failing sensor until the point at which it cant go any further - this adaptation stays in memory - when the re-adaptation is done and the MIL reset all should be well - the engine will settle down - you need to take it to a man with a STAR system to do this for you
Hope this helps

thanks for your replys, took car in to mb specialist today who put it in star comp and cleared everything, with no faults now but car still goes into limp mode and has put engine lightback on. car feels like its strugling and on motorway it doesnt go over 60-80mph
car has about 160k but speedo reads 90k

I would check the EGR valve as this can cause the MAF to report a plausibility error which then triggers limp mode. You may be able to clean it but do check the operation of it while you have it off to ensure that it is opening and closing properly, I had to replace mine because it was not closing properly even though it was clean.

i have cleaned egr valve and still have the same problemlem know the star test is saying loss of boost is becoming hrad to figure out, anyone with previous expeirence PLEASE LET ME KNOW THANKS

does any 1 know how to solve above

have you checked the pipes? a split in the boost pipe from intercooler will result in a loss of turbo boost pressure.

have you had any problems with mpg?

I had the same problem a few weeks ago, intercooler hose was split.

Was the Maf a genuine MB one or a cheapo ebay one?

If the latter, suggest that is still your problem.

yes i replaced the maf with orignal and now the star daignos says maf is good but when ever i go into limp thats when ever i hit 50-60 engine light comes back on and star diagnostics say that it is the turbo charger underboosting, but when i cut off and start car again car is very quick untin 50, also mpg wise i get 50 miles to £20 fuel dont know how to work mpg out thanks

About 16mpg. Not good.

If the diagnostics is reporting low boost I would definitely check for split pipes or intercooler.
Reach around the rubber pipes while squeezing them.

so basically i need to rev the car at the same time or squeeze while car is off and how many pipes do i have to check thanks

You can hear them hiis if they are split. The top hose is normally the culprit.

i have checked and the local speciallist has told me that the turbo actutator is stuck, is there anyway i can work a way around it thanks

hi thanks for all your replys, it was the turbo wastegate stuck i had few mechanics check and was told need a new turbo but i sprayed wd40 and knocked it with a hammer few timez and now boosts no light and plenty power thanks

Hi then I have this same problem loss power and problem with mpg I have no idea whats wrong with my car

Find a specialist and ask for a STAR read. EGR / MAF most likely culprits.
