Helo, i noticed a puddle under my car the other day but did not think it was mine.... then on the motorway the coolant light came on and yes it was me... I have noticed a small leak from the front of the car.... it appears to be coming from the part that turns the fan..... is this the water pump????

Oh you are a fountain of knowledge, Thankyou....wanted to make sure before i went and bought one.....and those kind chaps at GSF quoted only £51... not bad...

Fitting's not included, you know..;)

Oh i know...... i can have a go at that my self... doesnt look to difficult. And then if i mess up there is a garage around the corner. I got Ginas Z3 at the moment:D :D :D

I have the pump but was wandering if it were more complicated than just unbolt and replace..... i have not done it yet as i had new discs and pads on the rear and that set me back a bit at the garage....but now money permits me to get the pump done in the garage too or is the pump an easy job:D ....

Its a relatively easy task but has one or 2 snags. The first is getting the vicous coupled fan off. You need a large spanner for this 36mm?? (Halfords usually have them) and a means to lock the waterpump pulley from rotating as you slacken it off. Its a left hand thread by the way. After that you can remove the fan radiator shroud and you will have a lot more room to work. Store the viscous coupling upright not flat. Next drain the coolant via the radiator drain plug and store the fluid in a clean container to reuse unless you are renewing the coolant. Its wise to have some MB antifreeze handy to top up 50/50 mix since you always lose some. Remove the pump pulley- held on by 4 allen screws Then its a matter of removing the pump. If you haven't a torque wrench try to gauge how tight the bolts are when you remove them. They are different lengths so remember which is which. Replace the pump using a new gasket. It may help to use a drop of gasket cement to hold the gasket in place while you do this. If the flexible hose from the thermostat housing is in poor condition now is the time to replace it ( MB PART) also with some new jubilee clips for good measure. Then just reverse what you did . p.s. if you feel you haven't the experience get the garage to do it.
