Hi everyone - first post - looking for the benefit of your vast collective experience.
I have an E220CDi estate(2005) and bought it about 18months ago just less than a year old. Has been perfect so far until i needed new tyres. I have 4 contintentals and had to take back to get rebalanced as vibrating. Still not right so took it elsewhere for re-balance and this time worse. then decided to take back to supplier as suspected poor quality tyre. Tyre shop (independent) arranged with Supplier to give new new tyres - i paid a little extra to upgrade from Comfort Premium to Premium Contact, sticking with Continentals as these were on the car from new. Still have vibration problem so took to specialist with HUNTER GCS 9700 road force balancer and still not right.
All balancers now say must have another problem with car so have taken to mercedes.
The vibration is mainly through the steering wheel and is a very high frequency vibration from 20mph right through to 80mph but can also be felt at higher speeds through floor pan and central console where i rest my knee. After a long journey my hands and arms and feet are all tingling.
Mercedes have rebalanced again (undoing my expensive road force balance) and say its ok - but it isn't. I know how smooth the car was before and there is a definite problem.
I took back to Mercedes again on monday and explained that i was driving to France next week and wanted it sorting before i go. The guy has agreed to raise a technical question with Mercedes technical department, now awaiting an answer. He says another customer had something similar and it turned out to be the torque converter but i am not convinced.
I am now starting to feel the vibration even on tickover when in neutral. if you rev the engine the vibration comes and goes at different revs. Feels more like engine mounts to me but Mercedes say they never have problems on these cars and havn't even looked under the car yet???
Any suggestions?
Cheers JohnW
