E240 Fuel Consumption

I have just recently purchased an 02 E240 Estate auto petrol. When driving around town i'm only getting a maximum of 20mpg. It has 68,000 on the clock and has been serviced 2 months ago, I'm not very up on the technical stuff. Is this about the norm or not, if not, any ideas please. Thanks very much.

Town use sounds about right. You need to give it a decent run, then your mpg will improve to about 30mpg.
