E270 CDI consumes oil

Hi! I'm having a problem with my E270-CDI that has done 50k miles. The engine consumes oil. I had the engine checked but the compression is ok! Could it be the Turbo? If so how can it be checked.

A worn turbo usually allows oil to escape past the turbo impeller seals which eventually finds its way into the combustion chambers, it is then burnt, causing blue'ish smoke from the exhaust.

I'd be surprised if the turbo is worn at 50k but a lack of oil changes and/or poor quality oil would be a factor.

This car had been parked since a long time and when I started using it I noticed the engine oil being consumed. There is no blue or white smoke in the exhaust during normal operation, Approx 1 liter oil is consumed in 150km. I had the engine compression test done and it turned out fine, all 5 cylinders are reading above 200. Could it be the turbo or the valve seals ?

I would first replace the 'oil separator', it is a plastic, circular object with a breather pipe attached to it, it is located at the top of the engine, a few inches in front of the engine oil filler cap......when these go faulty they allow oil from the rocker cover to escape into the breather system. It is a serviceable item and costs circa £20 and held in place by 3 small bolts, very quick and easy for you to replace.

Hi,

Did renewing the separator resolve this?
