E280cdi Air Filter question..

It doesn't. It'll just breath easier and so get slightly more air pressure than previously, so it'll have to adjust the fuel/air ratio back to 14.7, as it'll go higher than that, running lean. The ECU will notice this via the maf and lamda sensor and richen it up again.

You'd need to tell the computer you've done the service it's asking for, but no need to reset anything. It'd be no different than driving up at high altitude (dirty air filter) and back down again (new one), everything adjusts automatically.

When I asked olly the same question on my 320cdi v6 he said it did need telling it's had new filters and so did mb dealer.

It does not NEED to be reset, but it is beneficial if reset is done. Like said values are self adjust, and after reset adjust is faster. Same thing applies for MAF of some engine models (you can check if there is option for that is SDS), I bet very rare people even here have done that...

Have I imagined it or did I read when changing the air filters does it need something resetting / STAR machine..

2006 / 56 (facelift) E280cdi.
Correct according to my Indy as well who did it front of me last week.

Cheers chaps, might leave it until next time it goes in, don't want to upset it...

I have same engine as you and iv done that air filter change myself. Initially I didn't get it reset but after a month or so I got it on star for another issue and just asked the tech to check it for me and yes it did come up as Air Filter Clogged. He reset the values for me but to be honest I saw no difference in how the car was running. Still as powerful and smooth so I'm not really sure what the reset does as i do suspect the Ecu would l know automatically as more air will be going into the engine..

Is it not just a case of resetting the service indicator / counter or does it have to be a plug in job..

No needs star plug in
