E300 TD (W210) glow plug light stays on

Can you help please anyone.

When I start up the engine the glow plug light stays on for a while and then goes off and there is a definate misfire until the engine warms up a bit and a distinctive clunking noise from the engine.(not the normal sound). When warm the engine doesn't seem to have any loss of power as everything seems normal. (the glow plug ligth goes off )

Is this a glow plug problem is is likely to be something else like tappit problems etc.

Any ideas welcome.

Definetly at least one glow plug faulty and not working. Nothing too serious and wont do any damage.

Had this on mine so I changed all five to be on the safe side, if one goes it wont be too long before the others go to!

So far I've changed two in three years and over 30,000 miles. I only changed one to start with because i considered it's life to have been short then did the other one to see how long they will go for. The remaining ones are now close to twice as old as the first failed one.

changed all plugs over the weekend and everything is Ok now.
