Hello,
Ok have an update on the loud sounding engine in my car, lissened to another e300td and mine is loud. It is like the exhaust hydraulic buckets arent getting enough oil pressure.
Reading some where that there are link pipes on top the head linking the inlet buckets to the exhaust. I dont remember seeing theys when i had the rocker cover off. Was i right in what i read? and wheres the best place to get a new set.
Thanks ian

is it diesel knock you may need yer pump timing checked buckets dont give any bother could be injectors or it could be fuel quality i.e. running on heating oil or **** fuel

Running on derv, ok found this,
' The absence of a cover interrupts the oil supply to one of the bucket tappets on the exhaust camshaft side' Part number 1191800266
Is this for the right engine? took rocker cover off and could see where these could fit, but might have missed it. They sit either side of the cam caps.

A 119 engine is the 5.0, V8 fitted to W140, S class cars.

The oil feeds are a known issue on those engines, but it doesn't apply to the OM606.

ok DM that puts that one to rest. If it is diesel knock, why would it be 2,3 times louder on the exhaust side then the inlet? Know the gas's are flowing that direction.

Try this as a test.
Rev the engine hard from idle then allow it to return to idle. If when on the over-run down to 1200 rpm it is quiet, but then noisy below 1200rpm, it's combustion related not mechanical.

Have you had a listen with an engine stethoscope?

no i havent. Ok tried the revin up and from out side, maybe a little quieter, inside is quieter on lift off.

ok, nipped into a diesel specialist, and 100% NOT diesel knock. Defo cammy.
Any ideas? paper work shows last yeah car had all new buckets...
Problem with the oil pump?

try some Molly Purge through the system

Check the bushes on the V belt damper. Push it down with a finger. Does the noise subside?

Black, where race? forest and clay??
I used to race at them, plus doing S1 in rotax and the euro stuff, Was ment to be doing the world champs but parked a 205 into a tree and lost my drive with Hobbzy.

Just forest this year. Selling my Gillards to race in Euro endurance next year. I need the practice! Racing with George Robinson.

George always done my engines, even though half the time he'd give them to phillip at scorpion racing ( think thats how u spell his name)
Could never get to grips with endurance racing, couldnt get my head round being nice to the kart each lap, Tooo many years pushing hard every lap.
George might remember me, say ian jones said hello if and when ya see him.
Ill give the V belt damper a push and see if that helps. Thanks ian

OK tried the damper, ok it is rattling a little, but this is full on exhaust cam rattle. Like the exhaust cam has been shimmmed wrong. Know its on hydraulics. Some times sure i can here the chain just give a quick rattle, hence wondering if the oil pump strainer is blocked. Will the sump come off with out pulling the engine out?? dont know if it would clear the sub frame or not?? my other car is engine out for sump off.

Pop it up to me and let me have a listen.

if ya dont mind having a little listen. Prob be friday morning some time if thats ok with u olly??

Out of interest, if the chain was rattling a little bit, would the sound transfer down the exhaust cam? going to check the oil pressure, What pressure am i looking for? at idle and up the rpm range.
