Various.
Just in case anyone's considering bidding on this be careful!

John Griffiths is "local merc specialist" referred to in the listing. I spoke to John today & he told me the car has very serious problems with the wiring where someone has mickey moused it around so much he wouldn't touch it. It's not an immobiliser or a degraded loom, it's a much bigger problem.

He asked what the bidding was up to & when informed it was £986 said "that's £986 too much!"

I tried to arrange to see the car over the w/e (before speaking to Griffiths) as it's pretty local to me but got nowhere trying to pin down the vendor on a time to view it. The vendor has never had the car running & took it in as a non running trade in, probably for a few hundred quid.

If you're good on wiring / electrics / troubleshooting you might get a bargain but I'd take a good look at it first.

£1,200

is that now £1,200 too much

thanks for the warning

im not after it but its good to know members still look out for each other as from the pics it looks ok

I think this trader is the classic example of someone who sells all his sh*tters or landmarks on eBay, anything decent he advertises through "different" means I'd imagine!

The vendor lists it as being very very rare! What so rare about it apart from being on a P plate.

Its surely worth a punt at that price though? Potential to be very very nice with those wheels refurbed? Its a very late one under 100k miles. I guess what it needs is a "fresh approach" ?

In fairness, he doesn't say it's 'very very rare', he says it's a 'very very nice rare coupe'. ;)

To be honest, it looks like a lovely car. P-plate, sensible/low mileage/owners, good colour etc. I guess clean/late/low mileage 124 320 coupés are fairly rare these days.

If cosmetically it's as nice as it looks, I guess it's worth the effort of sorting out the engine problem. Even another engine/loom/ECU or whatever would be worth the effort - plenty of 320 engines in other cars - W140s, 124 saloons, early W210s etc

Ideal donor car if you can't get it sorted electrically, got to be worth a punt.
There are a few nice goodies on it. Like the star on the airbag, obviously been recalled and changed out. Hard to get now those stars and they do make a nice difference inside. Wheels would be appealing to many. I wonder what the rear screen and sun roof is like??

Just a shame they aren't electric seats otherwise I'd have it!!

Regards to all, W.

Alright, so it hasn't got cruise, has only manual seats, holes have been drilled in the centre console and half the piping is missing from the armrest, but it's had the airbag recall, it's on a P and in 189 paint...

Surely it can't be that expensive to repair so must be worth a punt.

... must type faster - WDB124066 has beaten me to every point :o

If the loom is bad it is highly likely the ECU has blown along with some coils.

The thing is; Drive Authorisation (DAS) was introduced in the 1996 model year on 124s and anyone thinking they can use an old ECU which as been repaired will be disappointed as they are not compatible.

So, I would cost in for new:

* ECU

* Loom

* coils x3

which equals say 2,000 pounds in round figures.

So far then the car is going to cost 3200 pounds based on the bids to date.

That is without any labour charges and coding of ECU etc.

That is also without checking the car out mechanically re worn suspension joints etc etc and of course engine leaks etc etc which is quite a gamble on a car you cannot start.

Seeing as its already had a respected MB specialist look at it (this lot know their stuff) I would suspect that it is going to be a costly repair job and possibly not worth the money.

That's exactly the calculation I did in my head

I saw the Coupe yesterday on a trailer on the M25 going in the opposite direction to me. I know who bought it. It wasn't me!

Tell me more about DAS

Was it Charles Ironside by any chance?
