E320 cdi auto estate elegance
Hi, does the E320 cdi auto estate 3.2 ltr straight six have a fuel pre filter. I have previously owned an E300 D and that had a pre filter on the main filter housing. I can see this car is a lot different and having the cdi fuel system on it I expect is more fiddly to work on. Just ordered service parts ready to do it next weekend.
only had the car 3 hours and it broke down, one of the diesel injector leak off pipes split (the one at the rear of the engine) and it quickly sprayed out my fuel till the engine stopped. Great start ...

Anyway, info on the filter/s most appreciated

I only know of the large fuel filter under the bonnet, Really easy to change and bleeds its self very easily.

Not had any issues with mine but it has only done 80k

I have had this pipe split too, good job it was diesel spilling on the hot engine and not petrol!

Same as merc85, service wise, there is a cannister with clear fuel lines running off it. The filter lives in there.

2003 e329 cdi wont start after fuel filter change

Hi,

I just did basic service on my e320 cdi, changed all filters and oil. it was starting instantly until I changed the fuel filter. Now it will not fire. I have had years of diesel engine servicing under my belt but this is a bit more technical being the cdi and ecu's etc. I also replaced all diesel leak off flexi hoses as one split last week.

I unclipped the center fitting on the top of the filter housing and moved it to one side, I then unscrewed the large round top off the filter housing, I replaced the fuel filter, refitted the top of the filter by screwing it back on nice and tight, I reattached the center pipe and clip in place then tried to start it but it is not even coughing now. What is the method to manually bleed the injectors on a cdi if it will not self bleed. On the older simple diesels I would crack open the injector pipes and wait for fuel to squirt out then nip them back up. Can this be done on a CDI fuel system.

Or is it just keep crancking till it decides to fire up again.

I have gear selector in "P" so it should know it is ok to start up

Getting desperate now

All CDIs are self bleeding, W211 has primer pump in tank which should fill low pressure system when ignition is turned on, low pressure hose can be cracked open if I recall right. Cracking high pressure pipe does not help, system prevents pressurizing if open line detected. Did you fill filter bowl with diesel? Clips fitted tight for sure (should leak tough...)?

Most likely its low fuel pressure, again system does not allow injectors open if rail pressure is below 150-160 bar.

If you filled the filter's reservoir it would fire straight away. Failing that you need a good battery as it takes alot of cranking but it will (should) eventually fire up. It can flatten your battery btw

Always prime the filter 1st few turns of the key gets it full, was it a genuine mb fuel filter?
