Hey Guys,

Not sure if I need change glow plugs on mine 2003 e320cdi. Cant find any record that it has been done in past. I dont have any issue with starting or glow plug flashing in dash. Just thought 10 years now, time to replace.

Your thoughts please, replace or not.

Also if replacing, which one to go for Bosch Denso or any other manufacturer

Just leave them if you do not have a problem....

If your car is fine and you don't have any problems like engine over-cranking at cold start or engine taking extra time to warm up than usual then they should be fine. That 320 CDI engine is known to be bullet proof anyway!

Just thought Glow Plugs are serviceable items

If you are lucky they will all come out in one piece, they have been known to need some light engineering work to get them out.

Google

Klann
or
Baum tools

For removal information if you get stuck glow plugs

:)

Second on if its not broken....

I tried on my c220 and got one out cleanly as for the rest....

:fail

They stuck in good and tight and I will probably need to get the head off and send it to some sort of engineers to get get them removed.

I plan to run until I have any problems.

but just google broken glow plugs for your merc....

It's not necessary to remove the cylinder head.

Agreed there are various removal tools... I guess I was just going for worst case scenario...

Today I noticed it takes bit longer to crank on second or third time after starting engine.
It will start from first attempt (cold from overnight) but after been for drive turning engine off for couple times, start up takes but longer. It never fails to start. Is it time for glow plugs or???

Hi mine is a 2002 e320cdi and has no problem with Glow Plugs, advice is, if you have no problems starting, it should take about 4 secs for the glow plugs in the morning first start and ok for the rest of the day, the plugs are operating ok.:thumb:
Wait until you have a starting problem before considering changing the Plugs.

Not sure about this but im sure one of the techies can help you out on this issue. In my dad's V6 cdi, on a very rare occasion it would crank a second or so longer (after first start) than usual but the V6 is diff. engine. Maybe its a one off...

Hello I have a 2005 cdi and the same problem I'm thinking of replacing all is it hard or simple and how can I do it without breaking them

If it ain't broke.... Etc etc

If the plugs meter readings are ok and no glow plug lights then unlikely to be a glow plugs issue. A STAR diagnosis can check them for any faults. In theory they are simple, undo and refit however they can snap even if you are careful and have soaked in WD40 etc

Mine on first start up w211 e320 cdi the glow light stays on until after 5 mins. If I restart the car after this time the light stays out and will do all day until first start the next morning.
I'm thinking one of the plugs is not working

Could be plugs or relay. If it bothers you then get it diagnosed and the faulty part replaced. Personally I would just leave it.
