Hi,
I have a 2004 E320 CDI
the Engine Management Light came on
I hooked it up to a code reader and it came back with
"P0244 Turbocharger/Supercharger Wastegate Solenoid A Range/Performance"
I erased the code and the engine management light has stayed off
The car runs beautifully with no hiccups backfires etc and all seems well.
any suggestions as to what to check
or is the code going to send me on a wild goose chase?

grateful for suggestions
Joe

If no symptoms or more fault light / limp mode, keep driving. If problem , get the codes with star diagnosis to get real one. Because there is no wastegate in merc CDIs (some new twin/dual turbos has again, but others are VNT).

lights back on again will get a can of contact cleaner and give MAF a good spray and check again and with the covers off have a good look to see if there are any "oily" signs. Any sugestions as to what to check for most welcome. In the meantime booked in for the "STAR" treatment with an Indi.

No change in performance, no smoke, revs >3000, kicks down, cruise works?????? MAF should not lit lights, though may give false reading that other engine controllers do wrong things. But MAF fault should be noticed with difference in some previous things. If your previous code in anywhere in the area of fault, it could be worth to check turbo actuator (is it moving when revving, or is the actuator ok and having control). But Star will reveal more.

just checked it out
same obd2 code
checked all fluid levels including engine oil
on start up
fires up straight away
engine light comes on steady
test drive
no smoke from exhaust
normal running temperature
cruise works
runs smooth
but no kickdown
can change down "manually"
revs freely - plenty of poke
appears to be in limp mode as in "auto" unable to go more than say 2000 revs as it changes up
once in top revs go above 2000
how far dont know but breaking speed limit
will be booking it in for "STAR" treatment on Monday
am hoping it will be a sensor
knowing my luck will probly be an empty wallet!!!

I suspect the vane ring is sticking. Try a dose of injector cleaner to see if it frees it off.

thanks for your "suspicion" Dieselman - my next naive question is where on earth have mercedes hidden the turbo itself!! As you can tell I am not exactly a mechanical genius!!

As on all cars, it hangs off the exhaust manifold.

thanks Dieselman,
ill give the injector cleaner a try
