E 320
Hi All, I'm new to the site and new to Merc ownership, so please bear with me if this has been asked before! I have a '97 E320 (petrol), that when I accelerate hard has a strong miss fire almost as if the rev limiter kicks in .
Any ideas as to what it might be?? Other than that it's a great car!! :). Russ.

Hi Russ welcome to the forum.

Could be a number of things, including the engine wiring harness. Do a seach on this above, you will find loads of information....

welcome to the forum, not sure if the W124 (earlier model) loom issue carried over to the straight 6 engines fitted in the later W210 model. If you have a good independent garage with access to diagnostic tools perhaps go get plugged in? Also as SL300_24 says search the forum loads of useful info here.

Paul

I am currently having the same issue with my 55, the mechanic has checked the plugs, injectors, coil packs wiring loom and still no look....

If it's a W210 I think it will not be the aforementioned dreaded engine wiring loom issue, as I'm pretty sure that only applies to W124 (even though early W210s had the same straight-six engine).

If however it is a W124 and it turns out to be the loom, you're looking at about £600 for a new one (or many hours wielding a soldering iron as I recently (successfully!) did). As others have said, masses of info on this site about it.

Hi to all who replied. Thanks very much. I will get the old girl onto a diagnostic as soon as I can. I live near a Merc specialist called HA Lock, do any of you guys know if he's any good? I ask cause the place looks a bit like a Mercedes graveyard. :-)

Its possible from your description he is a mercedes specialist "breaker" rather than anything else.:dk: If it's a V6 motor it could be several things. May simply need new plugs - there's 12 - 2 per cylinder-- they have individual coil packs -perhaps one is breaking down? Other suspects could be the MAFF or one of the 2 Lambda sensors affecting the fuel mixture or a blocked /collapsed catalytic converter. The variable camshaft adjuster could be faulty or leaking. Its been known for oil to track back from these to contaminate the ECU via the wiring. Sounds like a high tension problem but could be from many causes. Its essential to use a specialist who knows what they are doing and not someone who will just replace modules till the problem goes away. Found one thread about them. http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/general-discussion/72532-h-lock.html
