Hi well this is my 1st MB and only had 2 days when all seemed fine was in heavy traffic engine cut out took a couple of times to restart then did 20ft to hard sholder and died again ..no smoke or noise just wouldnt not start turned over fine and did fire up but straight off again,called recovery . guy tested to see if fuel was getting through but only small amounts ,Have sent to Merc Specialist who i dont know ,he has had a day and a half and sez needs to look at more but seems to think is engine ECU ,wondered if anyone here had any ideas? Thanks

Lack of fuel pressure is the usual culprit. Does he have any fault codes?

possibly failed diesel pump, extreme, but recently happened to me, very costly, hope it's just a blocked filter....
Heard back sez definitely ECU has tested with Star and tested wiring loom swapped K40 relay out but still problems at ECU so replacement unit needed ,now I dont want to pay out the £1000 for a new one so have been looking at rebuild/refurb units found a guy The ECU Doctor who will test and rebuild cars unit and return in 5 days for £30 check of unit to see if working then if problems rebuild unit and return for £180 plus VAT which seems good against other option anyone heard of them?

sounds pretty odd that it would be the ECU.......... Id be tempted to take it to MB and see what they think.
If it was an ECU fault it is likely to show more problems than just not firing IMO.
I would seriously look at fueling. Its a diesel so spark isnt required as such. THe heat just helps with the pressure build up.if it turns over and there is fuel it would start........... no fuel.... no start.

granted it could be ECU fault not letting it put fuel in of course......
Car came back after ECU rebuild unit fitted ( had done at Round The Benz) and all seemed fine for a week or so then took for trip 1 1/2 hrs on motorway and as came off motorway two roundabouts so low revs then as pulled onto dual carriageway just died again, restarted this time and got to destination but kept stopping after short periods so had to have recovered again!! Is now back at Around the Benz specialist awaiting report, will post once I know ,but not exactly a happy man!
