SBC and Airmatic suspension both expensive to fix if they fail I believe.

Search 'ticking timebomb' for SBC. (Brakes).

As long as your prepared to replace the SBC when it fails they are great cars.
Totally love my s211

True......but time you factor in around £1500 for that maybe worth looking at post-facelift cars without SBC brakes (and airmatic for that matter)...

I asked the seller if any work had been done on the SBC unit.

Here'e his reply...

I've had a look through the service history and found the following re SBC.
25/02/2008 115276 miles p037 SBC REWORK invoiced to warranty
25/09/2008 131141 miles SBC RENEW MBUK 100% invoiced to warranty
SENSOTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL, HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM BLEED, HYDROPNEUMATIC, BRAKE HOSE, BRAKE FLUID, SCREW

I also had the rear brake hoses replaced. If it would be helpful I could send a picture of the SBC unit.
Thanks for your interest.

I'm not sure if that means the SBC counter was originally extended / reset @ 115276 and then the unit was replaced @ 131141. Maybe someone with knowledge of these or Mercedes jargon would have a better idea?

The way that reads id say its been done :) Looks a nice car tbh :)

The first SBC work in Feb 08 is a rework which is the same as a recall warranty job.

I would say it had the counter reset and then in Sept 08 something instigated the replacement of the SBC unit under warranty.

That looks a genuine and straight car along with a very clear advert.

It's a lot of car for the cash - and the seller seems straight up. Even £1500 for an SBC wouldn't lease a new one for 4 months, if the body and trim are good you can always get a few bits fixed - you still have a good car at the end.

Hi , Thanks to all for your input to this. @ Grumpy, thanks also for contacting the seller which, after some research on SBC pumps I also did and he replied to me very promptly with similar information. I have failed to talk myself out of it and have now put on a bid on this car. Despite looking at others on Ebay I have no idea what this vehicle is worth. I assume it being laden with toys makes it worth a little more. Regards Steve.

Good luck with your bid. It's a lot of car and hopefully you'll get it at a good price and be able to sort the niggly things. (I asked the seller for the info to try and assist you with a decision after probably putting doubt in your mind). To be honest, I didn't expect him to reply. I was wrong!

I was looking at this one with keen interest as it is a fully loaded car. Knowing the SBC job has been done, its even more tempting!

Mercedes E320 CDI Avantgarde Auto*Estate Diesel - *FSH* - *HIGH SPEC* - COMAND* | eBay

Is anyone else watching this ???. I am trying to put myself off from bidding, apart from the high miles @ 218000 are there any other pitfalls??
How do other members fayre with 2nd car insurance as I really want to run my E300 as a daily hack and keep this for best?? -- Add I am with Bell at the moment.

No towbar = glaring ommission from spec on a car of this type . :fail

A wind up surely? :)

Erm , no .

You can go through the full spec in the advert , and they forgot to spec the towbar .

Who would buy such a superb towcar and forget the towbar ?

The car is all but useless without it and you're looking at a grand or so to retrofit .

I have never had to tow anything my whole life. With the air suspension is it really a good tow car?
I didn't realise caravans were so popular. Also there is a huge boot.
Fitted a fridge in mine once.

For me a tow bar on a second hand car is a negative as it has a chance to have worked harder.

Not saying you're wrong, just saying not everyone wants to tow stuff.

Probably a good buy at the price knowing the SBC pump had been renewed I think.....

Hello all,
well guess who now owns a 320cdi !!! Me. The winning bid went on 12 seconds before it ended, a bit of a nail biting time as there were 2 others bidding against each other and I just beat them at t he finishing post.
So I organised some insurance today and go and collect the beast Tuesday night. Will report on what it is like when I have driven it home from Leamington. I have had my current E300d now for 11 years so it will be strange driving something different.
Thanks to all for their input and comments. Just a final word about a towbar. I have a wee Freedom Caravan I use at Steam Rallies, so do need a towbar, so I did ask the seller about this after I had bought it, and he said that he had looked a t the service history and on 25-9-2008 a detachable towbar was fitted by Mercedes, but he says he does not have the towbar. I will have a look to see if the electrics are still present when I get it home, and I dare say Ebay can come up with a replacement tow hitch if necessary. Regards Steve.
