I have been informed by my dealer this morning that Comand (Option 512) is not available at present and may not be for up to a year and so I will have to change my order to Comand 527.

This version does not include a CD changer which is a pain as I use a lot of CDs. I believe that 527 is the version used in the new CLS. I am trying to find out if this version is cheaper as you are getting a more basic system.

I believe that this may be across the whole Mercedes range.

With the music register does anyone know if you can copy straight from a normal CD? The consensus seems to be that you cannot do this, unless this has changed on the 527 version?

There is no difference between the Comand units apart from one has a single dvd and the other has a 6 dvd changer built in.

You cant copy an original audio cd direct to the music register as the tracks need to be in mp3 format.

The dealer has now informed me that there will be compensation for this but at the moment they do not know how much this will be.

Luckily it doesn't affect me but Diamond White paint is also no longer available.

I was also told that if you copy an original CD onto CDR then you can copy straight from the drive to the music register. Can anyone confirm that this is the case?

The new C-class price list shows the non CD changer COMAND system as £250 cheaper .. I would say the starting point for 'compensation' is £250.

As has already been said, you can't load an ordinary music CD to the Music Register as it will only import mp3 files. However, the latest COMAND units have 10gb of space for music which is a lot of mp3's so the lack of a 6-disk changer shouldn't really be that much of an issue - unless you have no facility to rip CD's, of course.

Thanks for that. Slightly different to what the dealer told me but it makes sense. I do have the facility to do this and so shouldn't be too much of a problem.

You could always treat yourself to an iPod with the £250 saving. This will work through the media interface that comes with 527 comand.
