E400d to E63

The price to change is determined by the asking price and part exchange valuation, and the asking price would have been known from the outset so the only unknown was the part exchange valuation.
Yes, correct.
I was only saying that I think my car was valued too low and theirs too high and there wasn't much available in terms of negotiation so I had to walk away (figuratively speaking). I had already done my homework in getting mine valued and also theirs, so I thought I'd try and negotiate a deal, but we were just too far apart. I guess I'd been lucky with my previous purchases (and the market was in a different place) and managed to get a couple of really good deals.

Yes, to clarify, £24k is the balance to pay for trading in my 2020 E400d for the 2018 E63. Similar mileage. Is a bit too steep for me so had to walk away for now.

Yes, it is a main dealer.
Hi , from my experience they could be overstocked with diesel engine cars and just offered you such a poor deal to make you walk away.

The larger V8 engine AMG cars will now increase as the new cars are 4 pot.

On AT the E400d prices for 2020 are in the range of 39-50k, mileage between 24k and 35k.

Mine has 35k miles and they valued at £34k, way below what I was hoping for.
Well yes, they are selling at way higher then the value they have given you.

Is your E400 on a PCP deal currently? Or do you own it outright? If you're on PCP, have you considered voluntary termination of the agreement? Although that does kind of depend on your situation in terms of how you plan to fund the E63......just an idea.

Facelift or Pre Face Lift would also make a difference on the value of your car OP.

I own it outright.

I'm embarrassed to say I don't know!

Put it on motorway, I could have sold my s5 on there for 3k above WBAC but got a good private offer. The person who bought my s5 said he sold his Volvo on there for £5k over WBAC and it was gone within 2 days!!

I'm checking it out as we speak, I think I'll be in a better position if I do not need to trade in another vehicle with MB dealer and just purchase it outright.

If it’s late 2020 and it doesn’t have a clock in the centre console, then it’s a facelift, also from and rear lights are different to the pre facelift.

Thanks for that info. Not sure about the rear lights, but I definitely have a centre analogue clock, so guessing its pre-facelift.

As an update to this, I've had 3 calls from MB now to try and persuade me to part with more cash, but we're just too far apart and they're not budging (as much as I am) so I'll have to wait to save up some more pennies for the switch. I'm also kinda holding out to see if they cave!
In other news I finally got to test drive the car (they didn't have it on site when I first went) and wow! what a machine! The noise, the torque... What a lovely car... It was smiles from start to finish. I think they were hoping the smile on my face when I brought it back was going to be enough to put my hand deeper in my pocket there and then.
Fingers crossed I'll soon be able to 'officially' join the club!

If they work in a similar way to most sales organisations you may find that they sharpen their pencil as both the year and the quarter come to an end.

My thoughts exactly, I was hoping that going on 31st (coincidence) was a good plan, but we'll see...

My 350 is no 63 but doesn’t sound remotely like a tractor.
Agreed, I had the E350d and now have the E400d and it does not sound like a tractor at all, in fact it's nothing like a diesel engine at all. Maybe (maybe) on a very very cold start inside an enclosed area it does, but other than that not at all.

The OM642 engine is recognised as one of the best engines ever made by any manufacturer.

I think the engines in the E350d and E400d are different, no? The E350d is a V6 3.0L and the E400d is a straight 6 3.0L (not that I know a lot about what happens under the bonnet!). Either way, I liked the E350d and love the E400d, but agree, the V8 burble is something else :-D
