E55 Cut off whilst driving! Help....

Hi All.

New to this Forum.

Was out in my E55 W211 and it just cut out on me. If you try starting it, it "coughs" and you have to leave it for 20mins or so before it starts again.

Engine Management light on!

Happened to me for the very first time this morning!!!

Any suggestions would be appreciated before it goes for a diagnostics on Monday.

It could be anything, but something similar happened to me a couple of times and it was the cam shaft sensor that was at fault. i got a message on the dash "total power loss" which was plain to see

Hi,
Sounds like the crankshaft position sensor is U/S like N7OGP says, its about £65-75, i would,nt expect anymore than 30-40 minutes labour to fit it.

as above , same symptoms on 2 cars which had CPS problems

All sorted now! it was the CPS.
