e55 engine whine? what is it?

Correct the 'charger doesn't spin until 1850rpm, unless the ambient temp is 5c or lower when it will spin at start-up to dispell condensation within the 'charger.

I was told that start-up whine was the muti-geared oil pump. Mine made the same noise, as has every 55K I've heard start-up. Never been a problem, very characteristic of the engine

Oh thats cool then lol, Thanks whitememesis :)

Yes, I think it was B1g1an on here who solved the mystery (at least for me anyway) - it's the oil pump.

I remember when mine was started in the show room before I bought it and I thought, "oh god, sounds like it is knackered already" but then I just assumed it was the supercharger (but knew it would be inspected by my inde so wasn't worried).

Ha! Exactly my experience on purchasing my CLS55  :thumb:

I think all m113 variants do it. My old clk55 did. I think my current clk500 does too but I don't drive it often enough to remember to be honest lol. Will check tomorrow.

Yep, oil pump, thanks for the nod JohnEBoy :)

I had this, opened the bonnet and realised I'd locked the misses in there. A hazardous removal procedure.
