heres my Dilema guys

the story ; - Saw a trail of oil going into my garage, moved the car and there was a cupfull of oil on the floor. looked in the engine bay and the drip tray was covered, but could not see any leaks anywhere (from the top).

this has happened all of a sudden, so could be a pipe or a seal burst, havent hit anything of driven it much.

check the electronic dipstick and its lost between 1/2 - 1 ltr of oil.

1. any ideas what it could be?

the dilema;

- do i let mobilo take it to my local dealer and sting me on whatever it is?
or
- do i drive 60 miles to my nearest indi and let him sort it?

any ideas?

thanks

Have you got homestart or similar?

Either you or the recovery man need to get under the car and investgate before driving further imho.

I'd be tempted to remove the undertray and have a better look from underneath. Should only take a few minutes. If it's a sudden leak and you've lost between 1/2 to 1 litre of oil I would think you'd be able to have a relatively good idea of roughly where its coming from.

I seem to recall that the cam covers can leak on these engines, even at low mileages, might be worth a look?

Best of luck,

Will

I do hope you dont have the rear main issue I had!!

I hope not too! all the oil seems to be at the front of the undertray, rear part looks dry still, so hopefully a different problem.

i have a choice of calling mobilio guys or the AA... wadya think?

getting under the car to remove the tray is a pig esp as my trolley jack is at my dads at the mo! :wallbash:

any more ideas?

Get the AA, afterall you're paying for them! They'll at least be able to tell you where it's coming from and then if necessary deliver it to the repairers.

Oh i forgot to mention, it does still have tier2 warrenty if thats worth anything in the decision making process!

Cant offer much help but sorry to hear that Alps.
Hope you get it resolved.

I think corned is nearest on this one, mobilio guy came and give credit where due, worked on the car for 1.5 hours,, but the oil leak was from either the oil pump or a pipe near there which was a mare!, being picked up and booked into the stealers tommorrow! Glad i didnt drive it!

ok, just got the dreaded call from the Dealers, it was the Oil Cooler that the leak was coming from and would need replacing.....
he told me the price for the part, i told him its got tier2 and that should be covered....

car will be ready for collection tommorrow :)

Glad i went the mobilio route! will give final update when i get the car back!

oil cooler replaced via warranty -£500 + labour
oil cooler pipes replaced not covered under warranty - £300

cost me £300 in total, so not too bad i guess!

also had a A service done £145 + my own oil, sorted for another year! :)
