I've towed with an AG W211 estate which sat as low as our E55k estate W211.
It towed excellently. Less spring and wobble to deal with.

Yes. But I think MB's concern is that when fully loaded at full noise under an emergency braking situation wheels may come into contact with guards. Also not too handy when chains are required, that sort of thing....
Bear in mind that if you give an AMG the full beans with a couple of tonnes on the back you are putting the towing bracket (and attachment points) under huge stress. Much more than with a smaller-engined version of the same vehicle. Probably not great for the drivetrain, either.
