Guys,

Am looking at spending £35-£40K on either an E63 estate, or an ML63. I am easy, but the wife, who has only ever driven SUV size cars, would prefer the ML. I will be looking to keep hold of it for 2-3 years, so would I be correct in thinking the E63 will be worth more after this period? It would only be used for 6-8k miles per year.

Regards.

If you like/are used to the ride height of an SUV you may prefer the ML.

Depreciation will be an issue of equal measure with both - you have to be a bit "touched" to want a big V8 these days, so the next punter may be a bit hard to find.

Bl**dy great fun though .

Both are fantastic cars, and the engine hides the fact that both are large cars relatively well. You can't go wrong with either, I would suggest having a go in both and see which you both prefer, as the character is subtlety different, albeit dominated by the engine!!

Personally I wouldn't factor residual values into the purchase of an AMG, they're very difficult to forecast with any real accuracy. I can't imagine one will out perform the other to be honest, not by a measurable margin anyway.

One thing is for sure though: The older you buy, the even bigger bargain they become.

Estate for sure - not many that can compete with it. With the ML, you'll find buyers would be considering X5M, Cayenne, RR Sport etc which will probably make it harder to sell on.

Hard to choose between the two, but if residuals are a concern and you are keeping for just 2-3 years , may be considering leasing as then you have a clear idea of what it will cost you over that period.
