E63 Running Costs

Thinking about getting a 2010 E63, can anyone inform me of annual running costs.

Annual is tricky without knowing your mileage.

You will certainly have the £470 odd road tax to pay if you keep it on the road.

Brakes are the thick end of two grand for all discs and pads when required.

Bit of an opened ended question and tricky to answer.

Not being rude, but if its a concern, you can't afford it.

I suspect it will be quite a bit more than a C220.

That's a load of rubbish.

Unless you are stupidly rich to the point you don't need to care about money the vast majority of people would want to know the running costs to understand the overall cost of ownership.

It's just a weird question to ask.

If you want me to be helpful -
About £475 RFL per year.
About 22mpg.
About £150 per tyre.
Between £500-£1500 for servicing.
About £500-£750 extended warranty per year.
About £2000 for brake replacement.

Like I say, not being rude, but if you're in the market for one of these cars, you'll know the above as a bare minimum, and if you want to know anything more, you need to be more specific before we can help.

Not at all. I run a c63 but i am not a complete numpty. I gave a wife, kids and a social life. I dont want my car fund to sip into the rest of my living.

I am sure i am not alone here, i have a set amount i allocate to my toys each month. Its called budgeting!!!

I would/am determine running costs - then decide what else had to go to meet them :D.

Priorities, you know.

£150 a tyre seems a bit optimistic, I recently paid £220 each for one and that wasn't a bad price on the SL.

E63 won't be cheap to run, servicing won't be the worst but brakes, tyres and petrol will be a lot.

Also if you're looking at a 2010, try and hold out or stump up a little extra for a 2011, isn't this when they got the bi Turbo V8, so your petrol costs will be a bit lower at least.

Road tax is also £490 these days, a friend just renewed their band M car, one of the few bad points about having something newer than 2006 sadly.

I have a 2012 E63 and in May it was 1 year old. It now has 13,000 miles on the clock as I do around 1,000 miles a month. In the last 12 months my costs have been;

Road tax £470
Fuel £3,380 (approx)
Insurance £440
Two rear tyres £550 (lasted 9,000 miles)
Service £480 (service plan £40 per month)
New windscreen £75
New part of the pano roof £800

I would imagine you could probably half these costs with a more average car, but is it really worth it?? Might not be saying that when it's 24 months old and more stuff needs spending on it but at the minute it's worth every penny :bannana:

Before the E63 I had a Grand Voyager and it did around 26 mpg so I don't really notice the fuel that much and the other costs are not that much greater than running the Voyager. I think it all depends what you are changing from to how much the extra costs hurt!

Out of interest, was the New part of the pano roof covered on warranty?

No, a stone hit it on a run up the A1, it was not covered by my insurance company either under glass/windscreen, which was a lesson learned in it's self!! The insurance classed it as a body panel and by the time I paid my excess and the increase of insurance premium it wasn't worth it for me.

Sorry to go off topic but what's the new E63 like?, I would love one but they are still a bit pricey for me at the moment :(.

I have to say its probably one of the best cars I've owned, I opted for the estate as I have two young children and a dog. For a car with so much performance it is very happy to tootle a long in traffic when the family is on board and equally if I'm on my own and a nice bit of road comes a long it's very capable and in sports mode almost feels like it shrinks and become a go kart! I'm not really a racer nor too much of a petrol head but I do like a car that when you tell it to go it goes! The power comes through very evenly not like a Impreza Turbo I owned which was nothing, nothing, then everything. The best thing about the E63 estate is no one really knows what it is, I could probably count on one hand over the last 14 months how many people have either commented or done a double take on it, which I personally like.

All in all it does what it says on the tin, it will comfortably carry 4 adults, their bags and get you there quick!

Not sure I would own another one though, for me I've done it now and with a young family it can seem an expensive a-b car when you are not doing what the makers intended it to do!

In a nut shell, goes like stink, drinks like a fish and fits the contents of your shed in the boot!

I would love one and probably will get one when they become affordable for me, I would go for the Saloon myself but do like the Estate, just I don't have a family so would be a bit wasted on me really.

I've had my E63 for 18 months now. My wife and I do similar annual mileages commuting of around 8500 miles, so comparing running costs with her lexus RX300 looks like this

E63
Service £301 (+£60 oil supplied by me)
Insurance £290
MPG 17-18
Road tax £475

RX300
Service £290
Insurance £290
MPG 19
Road tax £270

Now, which would you rather have??:D
