E63 Winter tyres

The B is for Brabus, not Bentley.
Very nice wheels.
I'd cry if I kerbed alloys that were £7.5k to buy without tyres.

£7.5 k... without the tyres????? misprint, surely?????

The Brabus wheels cost just over a £1000 each, the tyres were £300 each. Problem solved the car now looks great and drives great in cold weather. No clonking or tyre skipping at all. See my first post, I looked at cheap wheels but they look cheap especially on an E63s. Cheapies are a no-no when you’ve got to look at them for 6 months of the year.

This is the 'daddy' winter tyre .

New wheels and tyres fitted today - must say i'm quite pleased with the look. Was thinking that i'd be keen for spring to come around quick and get the originals back on but they don't look too bad.

Would upload some pics if I could work out how too - pics are too big apparently :dk:

I have the same problem posting pics on here- as a result I don’t. On t’other side you can upload directly from your library and fairly big pictures too....ah well

For anyone having problems uploading pics due to size, this might help. Right click on the pic you want to upload, and where it says "OPEN" it gives a selection of programs to open the file with. Select "PAINT", and then click "OPEN" When it is open, in the top bar in PAINT, there is a range of options, select the one which shows 2 Squares, one bigger than the other ( this is the "RESIZE" option) Click on it, and a small window opens, it offers the choice of "Percentages" or "Pixels".... select Pixels, and the currant Nr of pixels in your pic will be displayed. ( normally, it will be in the 2000 - 3000 range ) Reduce it to 1000 ( can be less too, if you want a really small value pic, but it wont enlarge ) Select Save As ( choice of formats appear I use) = "JPEG", save under its own file name, and job done.

Best to use a photo hosting service. I use Postimage, it's free and easy to use. Photobucket isn't as friendly as it used to be, Imgur is popular, and there are others.

Lovely rims. i'm just about to hit the order button on some rims from Performance Alloys. They're nothing special at all, but was wondering where you got yours from and whether you would recommend the company that sold them?

Cheers :thumb: I used a local family run firm Bespoke Alloy Wheels | Elite Wheels and Tyres that have been here for years. I figured that although I could have saved around £200 or so by ordering online from Wheelbase, you never know when you're going to need some support. They've always been helpful in the past so happy to put the business their way.

Stupid question maybe, but why are people just not buying winter tyres and putting them on their standard alloys?
I worked in Germany last year when I picked the car up and got both winters and summers with the car. I got Mercedes to change them over at no cost and plan on doing the same at the end of this month when I'm back in the UK.

Personal choice really.

A lot of people prefer not to have to keep swapping them over and also to keep their premium wheels for summer use, where they're less susceptible to getting damaged. Some others will drop down a wheel size whist others just won't bother at all.

I'm in the latter camp, though I do have another car to use in bad weather and yes, it does have a full set of winters on the original rims. :)

You did well to get your local dealer to swap them free of charge! I figured that, with the original wheels being so bloody expensive to replace, I'd rather protect them from whatever winter throws at us :thumb:

Changing 4 tyres twice a year is nearly £200 in labour so although it takes a while eventually you're quids in.

Also as said it's protection from salt on your best wheels but for me mainly it's the tyre size. On the OEM 19s there's very little choice and it's a lot more expensive than 225/40/18 all round which are barely more than £100 each.
